I have a two-part question:

1) Does the frosting that comes on Disney's wedding cakes taste thick and creamy or light and foofy, like whipped cream?

2) Does your cake have to be covered in fondant, or can you just have it frosted like a birthday cake (I'm thinking of the Intimate cakes here....)

Thanks in advance for your tips and opinions!

A lot of the cakes that I have seen from previous brides show cakes not necessarily covered in fondant. I would imagine that it's available as an option, but if you don't want it, I'm sure you don't have to have it!

I haven't had one of the Disney cakes yet, so I have no idea what the icing tastes like. I'm sure that someone will be able to help you! :)

I believe the other option instead of fondant is buttercream. Its not as smooth but its close...and much cheaper.

Disney uses buttercream frosting, so it's pretty light and fluffy, but still has a nice rich taste. If you get a cake that is covered in fondant, they will frost the cake with buttercream icing underneath the fondant--this is because most people don't care for the taste of fondant icing. I'm sure if you wanted just buttercream icing with no fondant Disney would be happy to do that. Just keep in mind that buttercream isn't as easy to mold and shape, so you couldn't have fancy designs done in buttercream (it just won't hold shape like fondant will).

Ours was buttercream then fondant over that. As previous posters said, if you want a fancy design or to make the cake look more "smooth" you have to use fondant, but since it's over the buttercream you don't really taste it. I happen to love buttercream frosting and don't care for whipped cream, so I was very pleased with the look and taste of our cake. The guests we had still talk about how delicious the cake was!

just a note, if you choose the fondant, as posters above said disney will put buttercream underneath. They will remove the fondant after the cake cutting and not serve it to your guests. To me buttercream is thick, creamy, and slick tasting, it's kind of rich and to me it just tastes fattening, does that make sense?.. before our cake tasting, I never knew what it was called!

yeuch! I HATE buttercream!!! Don't know if it's phycological (sp?) as I can't stand butter, but I'll have to scrape it off my cake before I can eat it!

Lol.. I didn't want to go that far freak the original poster out, but I agree! It reminded me that I wanted to ask disney if they can frost it in the filling and then put the fondant on. :rotfl:
