So! We got there Sunday (After being delayed for a couple of hours, ugh!) and checked into our rooms - AKL is amazing! I actually didn't think the rooms were all that impressive, but it's the environment and the lobby that really makes that place. Wonderful. I'm pretty sure DF and I will never do a value resort again - we got spoiled! We then immediately went to Boma. We had a 7:30 PS, but due to the delay we didn't get down there until about 9. We. Loved. Boma. The Rice Pollof was my favorite, and I must say, Zebra Domes really lived up to what most people have been saying! Yum. After dinner, we just wandered around the grounds. There weren't too many animals out, but we checked it out anyway. Very nice. The fire pits outside and inside were nice and cozy. It was probably in the 70s in the evening, so there wasn't exactly a need for the fire pits, but they were great anyway. We headed to bed around 10 to get a fresh start for the big day at Magic Kingdom!
Monday - we got up and discovered some Tommies outside of our room! It was a nice surprise. Then, on our way out, we saw some giraffe. Did I mention that I love AKL?! We got on the bus and got right over to MK. We had an 8:25 PS at the Crystal Palace, which I was a little unsure about. Well, I was wrong to be unsure. It was completely delicious. We loved the breakfast lasagna - I went home and looked up the recipe for it, and oh, my. Pancakes, Waffles, pastry cream, poundcake, custard and berries!! I'm glad we did a ton of walking that day! I won't be making that one very often. As for the character interaction - they didn't stop at our table even once. Which is OK by me, actually - I enjoyed watching all of the smaller kids ooh and aah over pooh and the gang. Very cute.
We waddled out of CP and made our way through Adventureland. First stop - Swiss Family Treehouse. I've never enjoyed this one much, but DF liked it a lot. Of course, we did the Tiki Room, which he wasn't much impressed by. I like the original better, myself! Jungle Cruise was great - our captain was a woman named Rhonda and she was hilarious! DF and I got to sit in the front right next to her, and DF is a huge fan of terrible jokes. As you can imagine, JC was right up his alley. Every time Rhonda cracked one of those awful jokes, he just died. Rhonda would make the jokes and then mutter things to us off to the side about how bad they were, or how some people just don't appreciate bad humor, etc. She was very dry and we thought she was fantastic. DF was the only one hysterically laughing, though. He especially enjoyed the head hunter joke. Agghhh. Anyway!
He loved Pirates, and we found the old Abe Lincoln (we think!) from the Hall of Presidents. DF was really amused when we walked out to the gift shop and heard one of the cashiers talking pirate "Arrr!! Where ye be staying, matey?" He decided that is what he would like to do when he retires someday.
Let's see... that might be about it for Adventureland. Didn't do Aladdin's. Didn't get a Dole Whip (too stuffed from CP).
Frontierland! DF loved, loved Splash Mountain and BTMRR. We did Tom Sawyer Island, but I don't think either one of us have a need to do it again for awhile. It wasn't very exciting. And I didn't see any paintbrushes
Didn't do the Country Bears. Did do the shooting arcade! Liberty Square - loooved the haunted mansion (obviously). Didn't do Hall of Presidents
Next time!! I cannot tell you how much we enjoyed HM. And I looked and looked and could NOT find Grim Reaper Mickey! Or the ring in the cement. And there was no rose on Master Gracey's grave.
We skipped most of Fantasyland because there were 25-30 minute waits and we had been spoiled all morning by just walking on to rides. We did wait in line for the teacups. We were getting really tired at this point, so we just did Space Mountain (DF was in the first car and it totally freaked him out) and then went back to the hotel for a nap. We're such babies.
It felt very nice, though. So we napped and then spent the rest of the afternoon at the Marketplace, just looking around. Once Upon a Toy is awesome. Wasn't so impressed with Disney Tails, though, or the Everything Under $10 store. We had an 8:00 PS at 'Ohana, which may be my new favorite restaurant at Disney! Soooo good. I loved the Honey-lime dressing on the salad and immediately found the recipe and made it when we got home on Sunday. I'm having it on my salad at lunch today, actually! The shrimp was also really yummy. Everything was yummy, and well worth the money, I thought! And it was entertaining. We timed it just right for Wishes, but unfortunately couldn't see much of it. Oh well. That's about it for Day One!
