DFDS ferries warning

As some of you may have read before, our first experience with DFDS did not go well. Our return crossing was brought forward by an hour and a half with no warning so we missed it and the next available crossing was several hours later. Staff at the port were off-hand and unhelpful. We are waiting to see how customer services deal with our complaint but in the mean-time we have just looked at the next two sailings we have booked with DFDS for later in the year only to discover that they too have been cancelled - but DFDS have not thought it worth mentioning. If we had not checked because of this experience presumably we would have turned up to another nasty surprise. Now we will have to book Tunnel tickets which would have been cheaper if we had booked them earlier.

So... if you are booked with DFDS it is worth checking again.

Thats awful, im so sorry that you had problems with them,
We sailed with them at easter and found them to be really really good, they were however very quiet! we were the only motor home on board and not many other cars either, My parents used them too and was pleased with their out ward journey in april but like you on the way home at the end of may they were booked for a 9pm sailing when they arrived they were told that that one was cancelled (probably because not making enough money) and they had just missed the 8pm one so would have to wait for the later one. They were told the company had contacted them but as they were away for 5 weeks and they had no internet how were they supposed to know?
They didnt mind waiting as it was only them and they just went into the back of the van and relaxed at the dock but i can totally understand how difficult a delay would be with children in a car!

As an update and to be fair to DFDS, we have just received a very apologetic letter from them and a full refund for our crossing so my faith in them has been restored. :goodvibes

Awww, that's really good news. Pleased to hear such a positive result.

Glad that you got a good outcome. :goodvibes

Other companies are not immune from this sort of thing either. Eurotunnel changed the time of our return crossing for our trip last week and never informed us. I had noticed when I logged in to check the cost of changing our booking a few weeks before we travelled. In fairness the time had only changed by 10 minutes so wouldn't have made a lot of difference and as far as I could tell it was because they had added extra crossings. I even checked through all my junk email to see if we had been contacted but no. :confused3
