After reading some other threads, I'm worried. We are waiting for our two 160 point contracts for AKV. So we were given 320 developer points total for use. We are using 150 at SSR in Dec. We were told that the developer points were good for a year and could be used at AKV or SSR so we were going to use the remaining dev. points next August at AKV. Can we do this?

We just did a 130 pt add-on to AKL and our developer points could NOT be used at AKL...the only WDW property to use developer points was SSR. Our guide was clear on that to us as well as MS when we went to make a reservation using the 130 developer points.

The "fine print" of the offer they sent out to existing DVC Members specifically says the current Developer Points are only to be used at SSR or Disneyland Resorts. I guess they could be different for new purchases since new purchases often get slightly different offers, but I would think the restrictions on the Developer Points would be the same.

You should also be aware that there are some other important restrictions to those Developer Points: they cannot be used to fill a waitlist and if you use them for a non-DVC Resort (the Disneyland Resorts are not DVC!) you have to pay a $95 booking fee per reservation. I'm sure you also know that they can only be used to book 7 months in advance, that they expire 1 year from being issued, and they cannot be banked or transfered. Oh, and they do not show up on your reservation listing online and it takes over a month to get a confirmation letter if you get one at all.

Good luck with them!

Actually, the deal is the same for new owners as well. The DP's can only be used at Saratoga Springs at DW. OR at the DL hotels

In addition to SSR and Disneyland our guide (and my paperwork) also says that developer points can be used for the Interval International Exchange Program and there is the $95.00 fee for that also. Looks like you must initiate reservations with I.I. within the 12 months but can take as long as 24 to travel.

WE got our confirmation letter a week later. We bought over the phone on Friday Aug. 22nd and our confirmation letter came on Friday the 29th.

I believe as long as a "search" is initiated within 1 yr of contract through Interval, the developer points really can be used up to 2 yrs..in essence you have up to 2 yrs from date of contract..:goodvibes

Does that mean that the developer points cannot be used for a property that was "previously" waitlisted by an existing member..

In regard to Interval, I was told I can go on a "waitlist" and as we previously mentioned, as long as the search was initiated within 1 yr of date of contract, you in essence have 1 yr extension, up to 24 months to USE THE DEVELOPER POINTS FROM DATE OF CONTRACT..

Is this correct regarding the term waitlist that you were speaking of?

Much thanks...Would try to use developer points through Interval on waitlist.:wizard:

I used some of my developer points for two studios in August at SSR. Not only did we recieve our confirmation letters witin a week, our reservations WERE listed online in our upcoming vacations!!! Of course, they have now been moved to completed vacations :sad1:

As to the OP's question, as others have said, your points can only be used at SSR, Disneyland or traded thru II. You can not use them at AKV.

It sounds like in addition to limiting resort use, they have revised how they (DVC) are working with these points. Maybe it is because there were so many complaints, but when we used ours last November it took me 3 requests to get a confirmation letter for our May reservation. And this reservation has never appeared in our online reservation listing; it was not listed either as upcoming before May or as completed now. I was simply speaking from what I considered relatively current experience.

I'm glad to hear it if they have made these improvements!

And as for the "waitlist" issue, I was talking about DVC waitlists, not II. I know nothing about trading out through II.

We also just bought at AKV and are taking our first trip this Dec to SSR using our developer points. We too will have developer points left over and was wondering if anyone knew if we might be able to use them for one of the short stays through II available on the DVC member website?

We are using our developer points for Disneyland and do not have to pay a $95.00 fee like someone said in another post.
