In addition, to better support Member availability, Disney Vacation Club will not extend the life of our expiring developer points.

Can someone please clarify for me what they are talking about in terms of developer points. Is this the mandatory 2% of points that Disney owns and uses for cash reservations? Or are these bonus points they use as incentives for purchasing direct(which I thought they didn't do anymore) ?

They are exactly what they say they are. They are points owned by the developer with dues also paid by the developer every year. This includes the +- 2% you mentioned. I'm pretty sure it also includes any and all points declared into inventory for resorts that are for sale at any given point in time that have not been sold yet.

I first thought it was ones given to members as incentives...and may include those,

But, after reading it again, it may indeed be DVD owned points, Notice, though, it simply says they won’t be extending the expiration.

I take that to mean that any banked 2018 points they had from April and June UY would not be extended.

All other points will stay in play.

Could it include any OTUPs that weren't able to be used since the reservation was cancelled?

Good question, it could include those as well, It will be interesting when dues come out in November if the breakage income is at all affected or if we will still get the maximum.

As per the information posted yesterday, OTU points for cancelled trips are being refunded upon request.

I think they meant that the OTU points that were used for owners, that are now being refunded, are part of the developers inventory.

So, if those points were banked points...and we have no idea what type of OTU points go into a reservation...it sounds like DVD is not extending their life for further use.

That would be points owned by DVD. The Developer points that are given out in incentives come from that pool of points that DVD owns but I am not aware of a time that they were given with the ability to be banked although haven't always followed what was what with them. DVD was just giving buyers a single year use of points - that's how it was twice when we received them with purchases.

What about points that owners used to trade out for other uses such as cruises? Are those considered Developer-owned points? I am now curious how many of these points end up "expiring" unused in normal times.

No, those are a members own points. When the person traded, the DVC villas that went with those points, was rented for cash, and the cash used to pay for the trade,

So, the points coming back are still reservation points and can only be used for those same options...Disney hotels, cruises, Etc,

Based on what they said, it would be any points owned by them that had April and June UYs in which 2018 points were banked, How many that is? No way to know,

Thanks. I guess there is no way to know how many of these points normally expire unused then. While it's hard to argue that this move would help with availability, I wonder how big of an impact it is though.

I agree, I don’t think the expired points will have a huge impact. The other thing we don’t know, which may have played a role in why they extended for 6 months those points, is that in the scheme of things, it didn’t amount to much.

For example, if only 5% of the points fell into that category, its effect on the system for summer./fall would be small in the scheme of things.

What the borrowing change leads me to believe is more points were going in the system from many of the other UYs,
