I have a question. My mom and I own 270 at BLT. So today she called our agent b/c she recieved some info about if you buy new points you get a free cruise and she was "complaining" that we asked for freebies while we were signing up and didn't get any.
ANYWAY
The agent told my mother that yes we did get something. WE got 270 developer points that have to be used by October of this year at one of the over 500 Disney locations . Now this is the firsst time I am hearing of this.
First, I have no idea what developer points are
Second, I dont' see that anywhere in my paperwork.

Can someone tell me first where to look and second what developer points are?

Thanks

Patty

...second what developer points are?

they are one-time use points which can be used to book SSR, a disneyland resort or deposited in RCI and exchanged for another timeshare.

they are used to offset the fact that BLT points cannot be used until late 2009...so you can use them to book a vacation before that.

if you cannot take a trip to disney before oct 3 (and you'd rather not deal with trying to rent a reservation or several to other people), your best bet is to deposit them into RCI as that will give you a longer period to try to use them.

You usually get an Incentive contract addendum which includes the details of the particular incentive and you have to sign and include back with your other docs.
They announced a new incentive of matching DPs a few weeks/months? after they first started selling BLT, but due to member complaints they are now grandfathering those initial purchasers into the incentive, but you have to ask (they aren't proactively notifying people as I understand it). Sounds like you are in that latter group so enjoy your extra points!
The cruise incentive just started a few weeks ago, and I don't believe they are offering that incentive to the original BLT purchasers...

I called and they said that my agent needs to add them to my account. So i have a call into my agent again. Member services is not showing them added as of know but your are right, they aren't telling you if they "forgot" to give you them but they are giving them to you if you ask.

This should be important information to all BLT owners.

When they grant you the 'developer' points, they will not show up in your account when viewing your account details online...When calling MS you have to specifically inquire about these 'developer' points.

They, members services, must go into another computer system to see them. They are not in the "regular" account.
They are only good for use @ Saratoga springs or Disneyland Resort.

Sounds like a good reason for a last minute visit to WDW/Land!!! :cool1:

(well before Oct 3rd, anyway)

Think of it as winning a free vacation, as you never knew about it, nor did it sway your decision, when you bought.

Best of luck!

We just bought and can't use the developer points before they expire so we posted them for rent at $6 per point to get rid of them quickly. They can't be banked unless you want to deposit them into RCI which I am not interested in doing.

So, take a trip or make some fast cash! What a nice surprise for you.

Congratulations on your new home resort!!!

Hi, If deposited into RCI how long do you have to USE them?? Joan

Does anyone know if one is to use the incentive Developer Points for the Disneyland Hotel, are you still assessed the $95 fee for making the reservation?

no, currently DLR hotels booked on points aren't charged the $95 fee.

I'm inferring from this sentence that you believe DVC is shortchanging members by deliberately "forgetting" to mention Developer points. But I believe you have misunderstood the situation.

Early purchasers (Sept/Oct 2008) received no DPs but got their name on a plaque instead. They knew what they were getting as an incentive. In early Nov 2008 DVC started to offer matching developer points. Some of the earlier puchasers (especially those who had bought just a few weeks before) complained to DVC and those who asked were then granted retroactive DPs. In January the incentives changed again.

At no time did DVC hide or misrepresent the incentives. They did not forget the give you your DPs. Either you bought earlier than November and did not know to ask for them, or you bought later and did not pay attention to all your paperwork.
