Hey folks. Wife and I have been seriously considering diving in to DVC for years but always held off for no particular reason.

Anyway, been reading the boards for the past couple days and I keep seeing people mention that the Double Developer points incentive expired back at the end of August. However, I just talked to our Guide 3 days ago to inquire as to purchasing at AKV and when I asked about current incentives he specifically mentioned Double Developer points. So I'm confused by what I'm reading here... has anyone heard of anyone getting the DD points since the end of August? I'll probably talk to our Guide tomorrow and will ask for certain whether this incentive is still in effect, but I did just want to throw this out here as well. Thanks folks.

This is how our Guide explained it: The current promo is EITHER an $8 per point discount on AKV ($104 - 8 = $96) OR one additional set of points equal to your purchase points. Minimum purchase for non-members buying directly from Disney is 160 points. If you bought 160 points you could EITHER get them for the discounted price of $96 per point OR get an extra 160 "developer points," but pay $104 per point on your original points purchase.
The extra "developer points" cannot be banked, and must be used by the end of one year after you get them. (The discount for SSR thru Disney is $10 per point: $104 - 10 = $94.) I believe the earlier promo that some are referring to was for double points AND discounts.
There are closing costs when buying your initial points thru Disney for AKV or SSR: flat fee of ~ $235 if not financing, or $320 if financing.
Disney can sell points for other "sold out" DVC resorts. If you are interested in BCV, BWV, VWL, OKW, VB, or HH, ask your Guide. They often don't tell you about this unless you ask.

These parameters change when buying add-on contracts either thru Disney or thru Resale brokers, and also if you buy your initial membership thru a Resale broker. Disney doesn't charge closing costs for add-ons for any DVC resort, even AKV or SSR (at least for now.) If you buy your initial contract thru a Resale broker, you can do so with fewer than 160 points, and you will still be a Member with all Member privileges and restrictions. When buying thru a Resale broker, it typically takes a bit longer to close, there will be closing costs on all transactions, and Developer points or other Disney discounts do not apply. Often (not always) purchases thru Resale brokers are cheaper even when adding the closing costs.
Many of us use both avenues to spend our money on our DVC addictions. Once you are a Member, from using Disney or a Resale broker, you can buy add-ons from either. You will see many opinions on these (and other) boards about buying from Disney versus a Resale broker.

Do your research and the confusion cloud is sure to get lighter. :goodvibes

UPDATE:

As of today, purchase a minumum of 110 Add-on points at the discounted $94 (SSR) or $96 (AKV) price and receive 100 bonus points to be used within the next year!

If annyone want the name of my guide, please let me know!

oops - I was a few hours too early with my details ! :confused3

nice deal. too bad they don't have BCV for $94 a point with bonus points ... :lmao:

Hmmm... AKL or SSR? Decisions Decisions!

We own SSR... do we split into a second resort, which in my view also splits the ability to book longer periods or larger units at the 7 month timeframe?

Thanks for the responses folks, and thanks for the great info sznk, we appreciate it.

I didn't have a chance to speak with our Guide today, but expect to do so within the next couple days. For now I'm just enjoying browsing through the DVC marketing 'Dream' book that arrived yesterday.

It should not matter much?

example: Own 160 at SSR and 160 at AKL

2008 can use 160 from AKL plus Developer PTs plus borrow from 160 2009
2009 can use 160 from SSR banked, 160 current plus 160 2009
