Developer Points in DL

I see that you can get Developer points and use them in DL... Is this along the lines of the ridiculously jacked up point "prices" for the Poly or GF? If we get those developer points, we're just curious on using them at DL and what that would entail. Does anyone have a 2008 AND 2009 point chart for DL?

If we buy the bitty AKV 100 point incentive, we get DPs, than we could afford to add on for BLT. The problem is, I don't know if I'd be able to stay 9/10 times at AKV. 100 points would mean an AKV trip every other year. FH and I are also kicking around the idea of buying a resale or waiting for BLT. We think AKV is GORGEOUS inside and we love the decor of the rooms X1000 over some of the older DVC... But I just am not in love with AKL or the park. I am in love with Epcot and MK and WL and BW and BC. Thus, a resale that way would make more sense...

We've already been twice this year and are honeymooning there in May. I am kicking around the idea of a holiday trip. I have already poured $1600 into reservations just on those two trips. I am spoiled and want to maintain my deluxe accomodations. Anyways, get ready to welcome me home soon

Not everyone thinks use of points at DL is the best use of points -- remember they can unrestrainedly change the points charts like the nonDVC hotels. Apparently now the points are a better value but that may not always be the case.

That being said, DL is much closer for us that WDW. I just returned from a trip to the DL hotel in a premium view room on a Weds, Thurs, and Fri for 102 points (used developer points and borrowed 2 regular points). We also stayed three nights (W/Th/F) at GC garden view for 87 points and will stay three nights (W/T/F) GC concierge for a splurge for 151 points. I also stayed 6 nights in a 2 bedroom at VWL in January. DL 2008 points charts are on the member site.

We own at VWL and AKL and have enough points, even with these DL trips, to vacation at WDW once a year in a 2 bedroom and GV. I will buy GCV points when they are available to regular members.

If you wanted to use your developer points and squeeze in a little trip to DL IMHO it would be a reasonable use of points. I suggest GC as it has better theming and is closer.

I also suggest that you don't buy at a resort unless you really want to stay there because someday switching at 7 months may be harder to do. If AKL isn't for you then by all means buy somewhere that is -- that's why there is lots to choose from! I wouldn't let a little incentive make me buy to stay where I don't want to for the next fifty years.

We were planning to use our developer points at GC as well. However, I just got off the phone with MS and yikes the points seem really high. We have 160 points and that won't even cover a standard room stay for Sun-Thurs. Now I'm not sure how to do this because we won't get our regular points until December so I don't think I can borrow any right? Any suggestions? I would need a minimum of 15 more points just to stay standard, it goes up for DTD view or CA view.

It sounds like you have a Dec UY like we do. It would be 165 points to stay in a stardard room at GC Sun through Thurs during the highest point times from what I saw on the site. You would only need to borrow if you travelled before Dec 1st -- you get your 2008 points on 12/1/08. Your developer points have to be used within a year -- and you can book them seven months from travel -- check your paperwork because it will be different.

FWIW remember that a DTD view at GC is literally right above DTD -- if you want to go to sleep early or have little one who should that may not be the best choice for you.

i think you are incorrect you do NOT get to use your akv pts dec 08, they don't become available until may09 that is why you don't pay dues until may 09

You are right, if you have Kidani points. I have Jambo points so I didn't think about that little wrinkle.

yes those DL points are high. I'm local and cant wait for GCV!! I'm going to call each month and see whats open even for a night and go play away!
