Hi all!:) I just finished booking a last minute trip down to Tampa from Detroit and since we've never flown out of Detroit and it's the first time flying with Spirit airlines I was wondering if anyone could recommend a nice (but decent rate) hotel nearby (park n' fly) and also what is Spirit Airlines like and how hard is it to find the airport?Sorry that I've so many questions but all of a sudden it hit me......I'm getting away from this weather and I'm sooooo excited!!!!:thumbsup2

Spirit flys out of Smith terminal and if you are staying at a PnF hotel, free transportation to the door is provided.

Spirit is a GREAT airline and we love flying them. The airport can get busy so be there 2 hours prior to flight time.

If you do a search for hotels, look in Romulus, Michigan. We stay at the Baymont Inn which, like most of the hotels in the area is dated but clean. With 10 days of free parking the room runs around $85.00 + tax. There are also Best Western, Clarion, Comfort, Radisson, Marriott, Courtyard, Four Seasons, Crowne Plaza and Hilton Garden Inn within a stones throw of each other so it really depends on what you are looking for. Crowne Plaza runs about 150.00 + tax with 7 days of parking.

The Baymont allows you to keep your vehicle on the premises, versus taking it to a Park lot the night before.

This should get you started but feel free to ask more.

Thanks so much for your help!:) I've been looking at Howard Johnson Park'n Fly and it seems to have a good rate so we'll see.;)

We live in Simcoe (near Tillsonburg) and when I do a map to Detroit airport it keeps taking us via Hwy 402 and crossing at Blue Water bridge but looking at our maps it seems shorter to go via 401? Which route is better?

Thanks again for all of your help.:)

It's a 50/50 split here. It really depends on your preference because both routes are about the same travel time. The easiest is 402 because once you pass customs, you just stay on the I94 until the airport exit.

Via Windsor, once you pass the toll booths, keep to your left (don't turn just keep to your left) as the ramp to I96 toward I94 is just past the lights, about 10 feet. Once on I96 the cutoff for the I94, west to Chicago, is just a 5 minute drive.

I prefer to park at the airport. I have provided the link below. We just walked across the street to the terminal.

As well, we like taking the 402 and cross at Sarnia because the traffic is so much less than the 401.

I agree, we did PnF last year and this year we just parked at the airport. If you park in the blue lot,it is $8.00 a day and a shuttle picks you up on the first and third floor. They also shuttle you back to your car when you return home.

Thanks for everyone's help.We want to take a park n' fly hotel (staying overnight at the end of our flight as we land in Detroit at 11:00 pm) and I see Howard Johnson giving a rate of $79.99 which includes 10 days car park too. Has anyone stayed at this hotel?:)

We too have booked the HOJO for our upcoming Disney trip out of Detroit. It is 79.99 for the night and allows you to park your car for 7 days in their fenced and guarded lot. You are allowed to park there for up to 10 days, but each additional day over the first 7 will cost you 6.50 a day.
It is still cheaper though than paying for 9 days parking at the airport like we did last time, or using the Robert Q shuttle services form Windsor.
They also offer a continental breakfast in the morning, and the airpost shuttle runs 24 hrs a day on demand.
Hope this helps.

D from Windsor

Thanks D! Have you ever stayed there before? Just wondering what the breakfast is like?:goodvibes

No, this is our first time staying there.
When are you going, on your last minute trip?
We don't fly out until May, so my review for you might be too late.

We 're leaving this month March 26th! This is just a last minute trip so I'll actually be able to tell you what the brekkie's like!;)
