We fly out of Detroit in a few days and my travel agent told me I could print off our boarding passes 24 hours before we fly, which I plan to do. From what I understand this means we don't have to check in, we just go through security. Here's the dumb question, don't we have to check in because of our luggage? I know there is a simple answer to this question but I just have never preprinted our boarding passes before. Is there someplace we self check our luggage? I just don't get the whole get your boarding passes from home/hotel idea. What am I missing??????
We are flying NW if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance!

If you are planning to check luggage, you will still need to stop at the Ticket Counter. I believe at Detroit you need to use a Kiosk. Once you punch in your ticket locator number it will ask you how many luggage you are checking. (The computer already knows you have printed your boarding passes.) You then wait until your name is called by an agent.

Even when checking luggage, I always print my boarding passes at home. I like the security have having it early. If you are not checking luggage, it can save you some time.
