When buying a new contract, is one's use year based strictly upon when the purchase is recorded, or can one establish it based on personal preference?

For instance - suppose I wished to buy into the Beach Club Villas. It sounds like this might begin around September or October of 2002. However, I would probably want my use year to be in August, based on the times of year I tend to visit.

Would I be given such an option, or would I just have to wait for the following August to purchase?

First understand that your use year has absolutely nothing to do with when you can actually go or make ressies. Regardless of use year, you can go anytime of year and always make ressies 11 months in advance at home resort and 7 at others. What use year determines is when your annual allotment of points is issued (first day of use year) and the time by when you need to bank those points into the next use year if you want to bank them.

Disney is usually selling a use year that begins 4 to 5 months before the month in which you purchase. As long as you are not using Magical Beginnings (under which Disney buys back half the first years points at $10 per point and applies that to your down payment), Disney can be flexible on use year..

Yes DRUSBA is correct. Use year means little, however Disney is flexible if you have a preferance. The only time they would prbably say NO is if a use year is sold out. My understanding is the points are allocated across the use year months evenly. Someone, please correct me if I am wrong, this is the way it was explained to me. We choose March use year only because we travel during the kids spring break in March, and for banking and borrowing flexibility, it made sense in our case.
