Determining best value for AP's

My family is debating what type of AP to get for the upcoming year. We are going to be at WDW for 3 weeks starting June 14. The kicker is that we are also planning on going to DL in August.

When determining the best value, do you determine the actual price of the tickets vs. price of AP/Premier or do you take into account the discounted price of the AP vs. upgrading tot he Premier?

If we take into account the price of the actual tickets and not the discounted DVC AP price, we only need to go to DL once to make a Premier price the better value. On the other hand, if we use the DVC AP price, we need to go to DL a couple times. We may still do that, but that is more up in the air at this time.

Thanks!

I use cash out of my pocket. How far are you from DL - is it likely you would go there more than once in a year?

With 14 days at WDW, I think you'd definitely benefit from an AP there!

I went by cost, i saw that i was going to be coming down twice in one year and the cost between two 7 days tickets was about as much as an AP so i got the AP so that i could possibly squeeze in one more trip.

I'm doing it by cost. I have a Deluxe AP with parking now (for DL). But next year, I'm planning a 14-night trip to WDW. A premium AP at DL is about $500. 13-day base tickets at WDW are more than $200 (I think or maybe that was hopper tickets). So, with the price of the Premier AP at $500 (and rising), I think it's worth it to get the Premier.

Hopefully the Premier prices don't rise by the time I get them (not getting it until late April 2012 since WDW trip is planned for early May) and I would like to christen the pass at WDW ^_^.

we were at wdw for 3 weeks in dec so we got the ap. We will have another two weeks there on the aps.

I tried and tried to get the premiere to make sense, but since dl discounts tickets for prepurchase *and* I would have to go from the dvc ap value up to the cost of the premiere, with what we assume and hope will happen with dlr trips this year, I could not get the math to work.

so for me you have to looks at your trips, price it out, and see if wdw ap plus prepurchase dlr tix makes more or less sense than the BIG ap. Best of luck!

Maybe I wasn't clear with what I was asking. We know we're going to WDW for three weeks. We also know that we're going to DL for a couple days later. We will be getting an AP. The question is how do I determine where the better value is?

Basically, if I use the regular price of tickets (not the AP price), then it makes perfect sense to get the Premier AP. Conversely, if I use the DVC AP price, then I need to plan a couple trips to DL to make the Premier work.

So, which should I use when determining if it's a good idea? The regular price of the tickets or the discounted price of the DVC AP?

You need to base it on what tickets will you buy for the 3 weeks in June. So this will be the discounted DVC AP.

There is no sense in basing it on the MYW tickets because you are not getting that for June trip.

This is my opinion only.

Actual cost. So if you've decided the DVC AP makes more sense than tickets for the WDW trip that is the number you need to use.

It sounds more like you're trying to justify getting the Premier. :confused3 I only briefly looked at it but it seemed like you needed to have justification for purchasing the Premium pass at both WDW and DL for that to make sense. Or at least one premium pass in the pot. And that would mean you want to go to the water parks at WDW or have no blackouts at DL. If neither of those are desired and regular AP's work then last I looked the Premier is not justifiable based purely on $$$$$'s.
