Determined to get to Boma

This time we're trying Boma for sure. But I'm a little concerned about travel time. We'll be going Sunday, Dec. 10 @ 7:30pm from POFQ. That day AK closes at 5pm; will I still be able to take a bus from my resort to AK and then transfer to AKL for dinner? Any other recommendations from those more experienced Boma diners? Even cabbing it.

I think the best option is taking a cab. But if you want to do busses, I think it might be easier to bus/boat it to DTD then catch a bus to AKL from there. This way you don't have to deal with the park closed/will a bus get me there issues.

Buses continue to run until security notifies transportation everyone is out of the park. I don't know if buses will still be running that late. If they aren't, MGM is between POFQ and AKL. You could use it as a transfer point.

Downtown Disney is close to POFQ (but backtracking to get to AKL). This can be used if you must, but we found it to be a very slow transfer point. The buses seemed to come to the parks much quicker. We were staying at SSR (which is near POFQ). The boats to Downtown Disney were a nice trip (we took them several times), but very slow when you were trying to get there in a hurry.

I agree...I wouldn't chance trying to get a bus that long after AK closed. In cases like this, we usually grab the first bus that comes along (MK, Epcot, MGM for instance) then transfer from that point.

Or take a cab. :)

In 2002 we ate at Boma right after AK closed. Getting back to CR was going to be the fun part. We walked out of AK and saw a bus for MK. We thought great, we'll just hop on and then take the monorail to CR. The bus driver told us MK was closed and we told him our plan. He radioed ahead and received permission to drop us off at CR.

I'd consider going to the lodge after AK closes and enjoy the ambiance until dinner. You may be able to join in on the talks around the firepit or the slide show in the lounge. I love to hang out there in front of the firepit either inside or outside and always have to check out all three savanah viewpoints before or after my dinners at Boma.

After dinner, you could take the bus to DTD and the boat from there if they run that late.

Last year we stayed at POFQ. We rode the bus to Epcot, then took a bus to AKL. It took about an hour and we were a few minutes late for our ressie, but they seated us. We did the same in reverse when returning to the hotel. I recommend this only if you have a lot of time and allot at least an hour. Otherwise, I agree with taking a cab or hanging out at AKL after AK closes, then just returning to POFQ.

We took a cab from POFQ to AK for our 6:00 dinner at Boma's. It was just about $15 and worth it not to have to worry about the timing of catching the bus and transferring! After dinner we then took the bus to one of the parks.

Have a great time, it's our favorite buffet. Try the ginger carrot soup, yum!

This is the very reason we rent a car. It's way to stressful for me to think about bus transfers and cabs and having to plan my day around transportation. I like the hitting the AKL first by taking a bus from AK and then doing the bus thing after dinner to transfer and get back hom.

The funny thing about our trip is we didn't only have 1 car, we had 2 or 3 (can't remember if Sis BF was there that night or not he was there for 1/2 the trip). We just hate to bother with driving while at WDW
