Thanks for posting - I saw they were to release some info today. The big ride sounds really neat and will be interested to see how the water coaster works with the linear induction technology rather than the water jets method

The taputapu bands seem a lot like magic bands - at least from a technology standpoint so interesting to see Disney's response. I do like the idea for at a water park where there are "play areas" ... almost makes me think of the idea being used at Dumbo

This definitely sounds like they are trying to make this water park stand above all others.

and these types of innovations and especially that coaster do make it seem more like a legit 3rd Park rather than 2 theme parks and a water park.

Has there been any word on pricing? With how they are pushing it as a 3rd theme park I assume entrance will be the same as the other parks and they will create "3-park" passes, right?

This'll be interesting to see. I fully expect they'll black out lower level APs for a little while at least.

No idea but the article said tickets go on sale November 15th I believe so that we should find out then.

It might be something else then? These specials are being filmed in November at WDW. I'm not sure on Disneylands dates.

Might be exaggerating things but it does have the feel of a potential game changer for Universal - looks like it will be open at night too. And if they have "magic bands" but are super easy to use (i.e, don't have to book your tube ride time 60 days in advance, etc.) will be interesting

Also, how the bands interact and make things light up seems similar to the bio luminescence they are putting into Pandora ... just really feels like a "shot across the bow" at Disney with some of these features

I agree but I think Disney will make Pandora the best thing they've done in decades. With the amount of money and time spent on it and from what people are saying about it this land could very well be the best themed land in the US if not the world.

Universal is most definitely stepping up its game. I'm interested to see if they bring this band/line concept to the theme parks.

I notice the bands are free for everyone - smart move...

But you're talking one land in a park (with 2 rides) to a whole new park.

But the bioluminescence in Volcano bay is only in one part. So it's more of a direct comparison. While this will be a hybrid water/theme park It's still mainly a water park.

I think its time for Disney to show us how advanced their technology is, since plenty of the attractions feels kinda outdated nowadays.
Also, first post :) Greetings all from Germany.

I don't really think that because there's a unique water coaster ride makes it a "legit 3rd theme park". Water parks have a much more limited appeal - and to a degree a more limited utilization. (Southerners - folks that can make the drive - still make up the largest portion of Florida theme park visitors, and they won't go near the water when the temperatures drop below 85. This means 4 months of the year this park will be very empty.

Now - it very well could be the best water in Florida - better than Disney's - and that may be the case. The big question will be do they treat it as an equal from a ticketing standpoint. In other words - are regular APs valid there. My suspicion is this will NOT be the case.

My guess is there will be a new tier to the APs that include it and the current ones do not (or perhaps just the top tier will but not the rest)

This...

Whether its myself, or seeing others, regardless... until they make normal day time park clothing (shirt, shorts, socks, shoes, hat) that can be worn in a water park and not be "wet" as soon as I get off a ride... my interest is limited to the harassment my kids place on us taking them there. My wife and I will have zero interest in going to a water park for all the various reasons the majority of others don't go as well (and do not watch the South Park episode about water parks... you've been warned).

I just remember the constant hype for Aquatica. For me, that place never lived up to it. Yeah, its nice. Is it something I have to do? No. Went a few times, and wouldn't put it anywhere near an actual theme park visit. I would caution anyone on getting too excited for a water park.

Sounds like a glorified water park, really. I'm sure it will be cool. It seems like initially the narrative of this project was that this is some new thing, a sort of new category of 'water theme park'. I don't really see it.

The signature attraction, again, sounds cool and I'm sure it will be very fun. I don't know that it will be particularly revolutionary, but judgement will have to be reserved until it opens.

Their best idea (albeit not an original idea) is the tap bracelets that allow for virtual waiting.

I don't know the footprint of Volcano Bay, but it's smaller than the other parks, right?

I think the success of this kind of system is based on proximity to the attraction and activities to do within that proximity. I don't think it would work as well in larger properties.
