we've been many times but seem to be stuck in a routine. can you give me a list (and why) of the places that are your favorites? thanks

I'm drawing a blank right now, but our favorite place is called Captain -something....I keep thinking Captain Jack's but I don't think that's it. They have awesome crab claw appetizers. Also, my parents always raved about Louisianna Lanyap's (sp?), but I've never been there.

There are some nice restaurants and shops in the Sandestin Resort 8 of Destin. Have you been there? Only been to Destin twice, so I don't have any "favorites" yet.

herc.

Ooooooh, as I live here I am rubbing my hands together at this thread.

KimR- You're talking about Captain Kidd's.

Okay so lets get down to buisiness!

If you're in Fort Walton,

Taco Town- It is just a little place that has the best mexican food ever. Its PACKED quite often during peak times. If you see it you just have to go here. We go there at least 2-3 times a week. $0.39 tacos on Monday.

Golden Corral- Hey. Its just really good.

Pretzel Twister in the Santa Rosa Mall- Best Pretzels I've ever tasted. And thats saying something. (in fact i think i might go get one now!! )

If you're in Destin,

The Back Porch- It's like being on a big porch on the beach. There is a playground for the kids, and if you have older kids, they can go down to the playground and play while you watch from the restaurant. Make sure you find a place where you would be able to see them, though.

Eat at Joes- It's pretty cool. lol

Baytowne Wharf- Do you know how to get to Baytowne Wharf? Its like a little village, there are shops and food places all around and its really cool. (Ask someone in Destin how to get to "The village at Baytowne Wharf") while you are here.We usually eat at the Old Fashion Italian Pizzaria and then go to the CandyMaker next door for desert. The Fish Place, (sorry dont know the name) is like a big boardwalk on the water (outdoor) and during the day someone plays the guitar and takes request while your food is served. This is not to be missed, it should be #1 on your list.

FudPuckers!!!- LIVE ALLIGATORS need I say more??? Its near the sockeyes and Walmart, you CANT miss it.

McGuires- Irish pub and restaurant, put a dollar on the wall and sign it. Come back and see your dollar years later! This restaurant is by the Wyland Gallery.

Hard Rock Cafe Destin in the Destin Commons- This is right after you pass WhalingWall88/Get off the Mid Bay. It's a brand new outside shopping center. The Hard Rock Cafe was just opened like, a week or two ago.

I know there is ton more but I just cant think.. If anyone has any questions or needs specifics just PM me. I live here I should know pretty much any of it. These are just some of my favorites, almost all the food here is good. You can't go wrong with any one of the beach restaurants like Back Porch or Pompano Joes.

I love DIS visitors!! :hyper:

There's a place down near the bridge to Oklaoosa Island, to the left. Cant for the life of me think of the name now, but their lunches are good. (and inexpensive)
If you turn to the right just before going over the bridge, there's a place called Dewy Destin's. It's way back on the water, you think OMG this can't be the place just before you see it. They have the biggest and best shrimp I've ever had!!
For sandwiches and huge potatoes go to McAllisters. There's two, one near the mall and one near Mellow Mushroom.

We try to go to Navarre at least once a year, and always eat in Destin or Fort Walton. Here are our picks.

Fort Walton:
Crab Trap (we had very good amberjack and crab legs here).
(hee hee, it said Crap Trap but I caught it!)

Destin:
Rib Shack (yes, it is a shack but that is where the best bbq is. And you HAVE to try "that dam' cake." Trust me)

Destin Chops (a nice, more upscale steak & seafood place with a nice atmosphere and a view of the water)

Fisherman's Wharf (We LOVE this place. They have the best blue crab claw appetizer, great service, and a relaxed, casual, family atmosphere. You will have a great time!)

Crab Trap!!! Yum. I always go there when I visit my mother in Freeeport. That is the only place except for brunch at the Sheraton that I have been.

My sister lives close by there. I'm visiting her in a few weeks and she is taking me to the Bonefish Grill. I've been there once before and really enjoyed it.

I have heard that Destin Chops is good. I also know that Fishermans Wharf is good. Landrys has very good seafood. A place that is a must on the your list should be the Harbor Docks. The food is terrific.

The name of the place is the High Tide. Not fancy or "touristy"....just good food priced right. Lot of locals eat lunch there.

Hard to go wrong with MaGuires Irish Pub.

Donut Hole for breakfast.

Another vote for McGuires Irish Pub..... but it is closer to Pensacola and not right in Destin/ Ft. Walton area !

Well worth the drive though !!! make sure you sign a $$ bill and put it up on the wall !!
