Hey all,

1) We're going in 36 days (woo hoo!!!), and we'll be on the DDP. We're interested in trying some desserts OTHER than chocolate or carrot cake. I saw some pictures of this dessert and am curious as to your opinions of this. I don't really like grapefruit - too bitter for me. I wonder how much you notice the grapefruit taste.

2) I've never had creme brulee. What's this like?

3) I've seen some pics of the Happiest Celebration on Earth dessert at BD as well. Anyone had this? It's not on the regular menu - is this a specialty item, only there at times, or is it there on a regular basis? Covered by the DDP?

Thanks!

have had the grapefruit cake many times - it's not that tart, more of a light, "lemony" cake with a tangy frosting

creme brulee - for me, it's the same wherever i have it - wasn't special (when i had it in september, along with the grapefruit cake - shared both with DH) - good, just not special

I liked the grapefruit cake. I think it was more of a rich, yellow cake with grapefruit in the frosting. It wasn't the least bit tart. But, I like grapefruit -- it sounds like the OP hasn't had a good, sweet grapefruit.

Sandi, I'm the OP and that's very possible - I didn't even know grapefruit COULD be sweet. They are always bitter and unpleasant. Maybe I'll give this a shot! Sounds like the frosting has chunks of grapefruit in it, or do you mean grapefruit juice mixed into the frosting?

My Dh2b had a banas foster there that was to die for - not sure if it is still on the menu though!

The grapefruit cake has become less and less "grapfruity" over the years at BD. Our last meal there it was not very tasty--sort of dry, just a hint of grapefruit.

I've eaten at BD several times and have never tried the grapefruit cake, always mean to, but there's just always something that sounds more exciting on the menu when I eat there, and I'm not a huge fan of cake. I like cake, but I'd rather have creme brulee, pie, custards, pudding, mousses, ice cream, etc. ;)

The last time I ate there I had a banana mousse thing, that I believe is still on the menu. Yup, just checked All Ears, and it is still listed on the menu; Banana White Chocolate Toffee Tower on cocoa almond cookie and bananas "Foster" $8.39.

I've also had two desserts that are no longer listed on the menu, tiramisu-creme brulee, which was dissapointing, and the Happiest Celebration on Earth dessert, which the best way to describe, is a chocolate-orange mousse, which was excellant.

Actually, the tiramisu-creme brulee is the only thing I've ever had at BD that I didn't like at all. Everything else I've eaten there, appetizers, entrees, and desserts, have all been excellant.

Wow...these sound so good, I can't wait to try these come September!

Creme Brulee isn't anything special to me. It is expensive and clearly not worth the cost to be honest. Plus, it's just too rich after a large TS meal.

I asked about this cake, too -- DH loves grapefruit, but we don't have an ADR for the BD. Several people have said they were able to get a piece at Starring Rolls, and one person gave me a link to the recipe for the cake -- might give you an idea of what it's like: http://allearsnet.com/din/rec_grck.htm

I had the Grapefruit Cake last Sunday. It was very moist and fluffy. It was sweet but not overpowering. The grapefruit flavor was subtle and it mostly was in the sauce that was drizzled on the plate. If you wanted more grapefruit flavor just take each piece and run it through the sauce.

At first I was apprehensive about trying it, but I'm glad that I did. It was delicious. There's nothing bitter or tart about it.
