I am not eating at The Brown Derby but I have heard raves about their grapefruit cake. Is it possible to go to the hostess and order a piece of cake as a take away? Would it help if I wear my birthday button? ;)

I think it would be easy to get that, since it really doesn't involve anything other than a simple slice of cake... You're not ordering "dinner to go".

It never hurts to ask, and all they can do is say "sorry, we can't do that". I think the odds of success might be higher with the birthday button on, though. :thumbsup2

I have occasssionaly seen the grapefruit cake available at Starring Rolls, the CS place next to the Brown Derby.

Thanks for the tip about Starring Rolls. That didn't occur to me. In terms of getting the dessert at the restaurant, I guess in addition to asking if they would be willing to do it, I also want to know if they are "able" to do it. I don't know if the TS restaurants have "to go" boxes since most people in theme parks don't take doggie bags. Right? :confused3

Actually, the TS places do have containers for taking leftovers with you. We've done it many times, especially when we're too full to eat the dessert right after our meal!

Getting your dessert "to go" is possible, because you can just tell your waiter/waitress you need a box. But getting it from the front desk when you're not there to eat first - that might not be so easy. There have been reports of people trying this and being told "no" because the check-in counter is not set up as a cash register to order foods, and the people working that area are not equipped to take orders, and cannot leave to go get food from the kitchen, so be prepared for a very possible "no" when you ask. Don't remember if it was specifically at the Brown Derby they got turned down or somewhere else, but I know I read that someone has tried to get a dessert to go this way -- I read a thread about that here on this board somewhere.

I would try at Starring Rolls. We've been there several times, but I don't actually remember seeing the grapefruit cake at Starring rolls. They may be able to go next door & get it for you - I think they actually share a kitchen there.

You can get your dessert to go after your meal but you cannot walk in and order "takeout".

Yes, that's exactly what I mentioned earlier. Particularly when on a dining plan, sometimes there's just too much food to consume in one sitting.

It was and they were very unhappy

Anyhoo, another poster came back and said while it wasn't in the case at Starring Rolls, they were able to request it and the server went and got it. Don't know if that will happen every time (picturing 3 deep crowds here) but it can't hurt to ask :)
