Hi Everyone,

My lil sis and Mom are headed out to DL soon- I could swear I read somewhere that there is dessert buffet located near the Pirates ride in DL.

Am I right? If so, where do they book it? Thanks!

Yes, it's the Fantasmic dessert buffet and it's held on the balcony of the Disney Gallery in New Orleans Square. It's pricy.....I want to say around $50 a person, but it's an absolutely incredible vantage point for Fantasmic. I did it once and I don't need to ever do it again for that price, but I'm very glad I did it once. I believe it can be booked one month in advance by calling the same number you call for DL dining reservations.

Oh, it's a dessert buffet! I thought the price was just for the reserved and fabulous Fantasmic Seating! Thanks for the info - so can you eat as much as you want????

Yes, you can, though once the show starts, you probably won't want to be doing anything but watching. I think Fantasmic is just an exceptional show, and I had seen it before I did the dessert buffet, both at DL and WDW, but I'm telling you what, seeing it from that vantage point, in a chair, not having to have people crowded in so close to your personal space like when you have to stake out a spot for it on the ground, it was just mesmerizing. Often there are two showings per night of Fantasmic, with the fireworks in between, and if you pay for the dessert buffet for the first showing, you can stay on the balcony for the fireworks. You miss out on the projections on the castle, but other than that it's a nice view of the actual fireworks.

Thanks Karen - not that I need to eat it all, but it sounds interesting! lol... You know, that's exactly why I have not watched Fantasmic in years - the crowds, the unpleasant uncomfortableness of it all. I don't think Morgan would sit through it just yet but you just gave ME a reason to do this in the coming year or so!

How about you DisneyAprilFool?

I have never been- I've just heard about it here a year back and put it in my 'things to do' list in the back of my mind ;) HOWEVER, I won't be going on this trip- my Mom and lil sis (big lil sis, she's 19 now) will be going and since I had mentioned it to my sis, she brought it up again today.

They'll be there over the 4th of July- so perfect. Not a month out yet. Is it the ressie line that you use for WDW too or is there a different one for DL? We always eat CS at DL- so we've never made ressies for anything there. (Well, Rainforest Cafe and ESPN Zone- but nothing in the park).

I think Disney Dining can do the ressies, I usually do Vacation Planning for everything since we stay on site.

Sounds yummy, I think I'm hungry. Let us know what they think! I'm eager to hear about the desserts.

I don't think you'll be disappointed! As I mentioned, I had seen the show before, but on my last trip to DL in 1/06, I was bringing my then 8yr old autistic spectrum DS with me, and one of his big issues is people too close to him, so I knew the general viewing area would not work well for him at all, so I decided to splurge on the dessert buffet and I'm so glad I did, it was perfect!

Very nice Karen, that's a fantastic perk for those of us who can't do the crowds. I'm so happy things worked so well for you too. Now your DS - how about the volume, did that bother him? Morgan does not like the fireworks because of the loudness. She watches the video here at night every single night (we've got one of the 50th show - love it!) and no problems, but in person can't stand it! That's my other concern with Fantasmic, I remember it being pretty loud!

My BF and I are planning to do the dessert buffet in June for our anniversary. I have not called yet, but plan to on the morning of the 1 month mark. Can anyone tell me what types of desserts they serve? I went once when I was a kid, but can't remember what they had. Thanks!

DS did fine with the noise level. I think a couple times he might have covered his ears, he usually does that with fireworks, but overall, it was just so mesmerizing, he was fine.

It's been almost a year and a half since I did the dessert buffet, but I remember a lot of fancy pastry looking things, little eclairs, fancy cakes sliced up, delicious fruit kabobs with huge strawberries.....it was a pretty big table filled with desserts, and they also had beverages available, too, with servers that came around and took your order. I remember my DS got hot chocolate, and I don't recall what I had, I want to say hot tea but I'm not sure. The desserts were good, but not anything so extraordinary it was worth the price, but it was worth the price for that view and not being so crowded in, not to mention not having to waste time staking out a spot. I think we could get there starting a half hour prior to Fantasmic, but didn't have to be there then, your seats are assigned based on the order that you ordered the tickets. If I recall correctly, DS and I got there about 10 minutes before Fantasmic started and there were already lots of people there, but we still had 2 seats right in the front row. We had just enough time to get some goodies and sit down and then it started, so it was perfect timing. It's such a great memory for me, I'm getting teary-eyed remembering how special it was to be there with my DS and definitely worth every cent.

Do you know if you have to pay for children under two at the buffet? It looks like they are free in the other seating, but it was unclear about whether or not they were free at the buffet. Thanks, anyone who can help!
