Friends of ours gave us a this cruise as a surprise and a room (that accomodates 4) as a gift on August 17. Being a family of 6, we have tried to see if we could upgrade to a larger room and the rooms have been sold out for quite sometime. (Though we have kept checking in case of any changes.)
We initially made plans for our youngest two to stay with friends (who were quite happy due to the novelty of spending the night, ice cream, presents when we got home for them, etc...). Problem is one of them is chronically ill, but stable, and the friends who initially could take her and her sister have had a family crisis arise and will not be able to keep them. We have been able to find a close friend to keep one of the girls, but not the other due to her medical issues.
Our little girl, Grace, is 3 1/2 and requires nightly shots of interferon due to medical problems she came to us with from a Cambodian orphanage 2 years ago.
We have scurried around trying to find friends she knows and trusts and we know and trust who are also trained in giving her her injections (or capable of being trained), but to no avail.
Disney has said that she can come with us, but CANNOT be registered under our room due to the room capacity of 4 and the fire marshal rules. They said the only way she could accompany us would be for "friends" to register her to their room whose occupancy rate is not already full, under OUR last name and as OUR daughter. (We pay the additional fare too ) She would only be required to be shown present in that room during the mandatory on deck fire drill on the first night of the cruise. (They want everyone lined up with life vests and at their assigned location according to room during the drill) After that she can be with us 100% of the time, as they do not care who sleeps where and she would be assigned to dine with us as well as our responsibility for the entire cruise. They said it is not uncommon that groups or large families travelling do this because of occupancy rate limitations. THE DIFFERENCE HERE IS WE HAVE NO FRIENDS OR FAMILY TRAVELLING WITH US AND NO WHERE ELSE TO TURN EXCEPT TO THIS BOARD. We are hoping for an angel.
We are HOPING and PRAYING someone out there as a family of 2 or 3 registered in a room for 4 or a family of 4 registered in a room for 5, would be willing to add her on as a FRIEND, in our last name, to their cabin so that she can accompany us and I can give her her nightly injections (which she cannot miss) and be there for her. (They injections make her a little nauseous at times.) The cruise was originally given to my husband (and our family) due to ongoing health problems my husband has had that have prevented him from being able to work and have caused major changes in our family. The idea was to lift some stress and put some fun and *magic* back into his way of thinking. He cannot not go. I cannot not go, as he cannot take care of the girls from a wheelchair and walker for a whole week (plus all the meds he is on). We are in a quandary. The date can't be changed because of the Florida Resident Special our friend got. Anybody out there who can help or knows someone who might be able to, PLEASE ask them. We would be forever grateful to you.
Sorry to have had to ask, but I don't know what else to do.
Sincerely,
Liz and family
