Despair...???

Oh never give up. I think it's fun up till the last minute :) and I would definitely choose some places you might now have originally thought about. Most of all have a great trip and congrats on the September trip.

Last minute trip planned for late September (yay!) but most places (and times) we want to dine at are booked :sad1:. Still a lot of time to go but should we be really feeling despair at this point or keep our hopes up? I'm guessing (hoping!) lots of advanced reservations made that will change once we get closer to actual dates? What are others experience with getting dining reservations when all seems lost?:o Keep vigilant I would guess?

Depends on where you want and what your timing flexibility is. I always reassure myself by looking at what is available in the next few days.

Something important: Are you limited to DDP? TIW? OOP?

If not DDP constrained... DW & I would HIGHLY recommend some of the Swan-Dolphin Restaurants. These actually PREFER "Open Table". Both Shula's (best steak and/or lobster on property), and Il Mulino (best Italian on property), are often overlooked.

Okay please just stop now as this is totally irrelevant to the topic lol
Seems like you are asking to post by your rules. This is a public, moderated forum. Diverse opinions are ok.
In that vein OP, despair seems strong. I would despair if DH was dying, not if I cannot get a Restaurant Reservation. To each there own.

Don’t despair! Between now and your trip you should be able to find a lot of openings that pop up for the restaurants. Some of the best dining experiences I’ve had were at the last moment. We booked a Hollywood Brown Derby the day before and coral reef about 15 minutes in advance. Both reservations for some of the best food we had that trip.

I once got my dream reservation on the flight to Disney thanks to a kind seatmate! Le Cellier on a Friday night at the perfect time. Don’t despair, it can happen!

You'd be surprised how many options you'll see the day before or day of. Both our September trips in 2016 and 2017, we booked last minute ADR's at popular restaurants. It was great! There are 2 we need for our upcoming September trip because we added a guest to our trip, and I know we will eventually get them even if it is the day before. Things open up as it gets closer.

I booked a trip for this weekend (yay!) in mid-February. Since then, I've gotten ADRs at Cali Grill, Ohana, and Palace. I've also had (and since dropped) ADRs for Artist Point and BoG. And none of them were at "oddball" times, either.

Just a bit of perseverance, and you'll get what you want!

You are in despair that Disney won't let you overpay for so so food... OK then LOL!

Seriously look at it as an opportunity Try the restaurants at Disney Springs and the Swan/Dolphin, most of these can be booked on OpenTable and the food is better than Disney owned places!

Two of the best on property - especially Il Mulino!

Not at all, was in the same situation, made due with the times I could get, even moved a park day around to fit in the ADR's, but thanks to Touring Plans we have everything we wanted AND the times we wanted..... keep on trucking and dont give up......good luck!

You have TONS of time for things to change before your trip. Enjoy the planning fun! Possibly take this opportunity to explore some new dining options? We once planned a last minute trip (less than 3 weeks ahead which for us is 'last minute') and we found new dining places we enjoyed that we otherwise wouldn't have tried. They're now some of the ones we choose many trips!

I wouldn't necessarily say "despair", but my dad (who is at WDW about 7 weeks every year) has noticed that he's been having trouble booking things (and changing resorts) for his upcoming trips this fall/winter and we both figure it's probably because there's going to be a spike in popularity/attendance at WDW because of GE opening in late August. It would explain why rooms seem to be booked solid and why reservations are apparently so hard to come by.

I would say check daily for the things that you want, but you'll also be there for Food and Wine festival, which can be several meals if you do it right!

Yes, commence wailing for at least 1 hour per day, every day before your trip. Gnashing of teeth is optional, but recommended.*

*Okay, but seriously, as mentioned above, people change around their reservations constantly. Keep checking, especially a few days before when you want to eat, and I think you'll be surprised at what opens up. And if you simply cannot get into the place you wanted this year, try something you've never done before. Who knows, you might find a new favorite!
