I just wanted to thank Desiree for the heads up and mention that a story about a burglary in our paper this AM sounded like robbers actually do use this tool. Is said in our paper that many houses in Philly were robbed last year, they would call the houses repeatedly and when they didn't get an answer go online to find the address. I've sent emails out to everyone in my address book, does anyone know of any other search engines that allow you to find an address with just the phone number?

Not a search engine, but you can go to switchboard.com and type in a phone number. If the number is listed, the name and address of the person will come up. Not even sure if you are able to remove them from there.

Of course, to demonstrate the futility of trying to find search engines that do this and removing yourself - I did a completely different search than Dan did and came up with a completely different list of search engines.

But wait, there's more. You can order CDROM's containing all the information that you are now trying to remove. Here's one

You could literally spend weeks looking for all online sources, and still not find them all. And that's not including all the people that now have your address, phone number and name on CDrom. I'd bet you $20 that if you went through all this, and gave me your phone number I could <i>still</i> find a source of information on you.

A better outlet for your time might be looking into security systems for you house. That would be more of a deterrent than doing all this work. It's your time, I suppose. Good luck!

This is not a new thing. I believe you can still get a reverse phone book. They have been around for years. Your phone number is listed in order and your name and address follows so if someone really wants to know there are too many ways to find out. Its one of the prices we pay for being in the information age.
