Hopefully someone can give us a report ........since the new policy is now in effect.......

Not to start another smoking thread, but as we mentioned when this originally came out, it's going to be the same as in the parks. You're not SUPPOSED to smoke outside of these areas, but it's going to be quite a while before people start adhering to the rule.

Plus I don't think it's high on most cast members "things to do" to stop people from smoking. It causes a confrontation, and most cast members don't want to do that.

i saw an underage peacock smoking while driving a golf cart, does that count?

They'll have a hard time stopping people from smoking at the campsites themselves.... now out in "the open" on the trails is a different thing altogether, they could ban that and it would just be somebody's job (yuck) to go around enforcing it.

What I've noticed around here, just in general, is that places that have *banned* smoking from the property, still haven't/can't do anything about people smoking in their cars in the parking lot. You can tell, 'cause that's where all the smokers hang out now. :lmao: We had one lady at work that brought her pick-up with lawn chairs in the back and made quite the lounge! She got alot of the "evil eye" but nobody could quite figure out that she was breaking the rule, exactly.

I would think that's sort of the same problem as at a campsite. If you're smoking in your RV, or really if standing in the doorway, whatever, they'd have a really difficult time stopping that from happening. That's about as far as they could take it, and it would be really hard to enforce even then.

Having said that, both of us smoke. I don't smoke as much as my husband so it doesn't really bother me to go 4-5 hours, him that's an issue. I was doing the preliminary research into the WDW hotels when the new smoking policy went into effect. When I said something, my husband just said "well that answers that, we're going to be camping". So, hey, if we're in the least bit "typical", you're going to find soon enough that every smoker that wants to stay on property is going to be headed to the Fort.

according to the above referenced post, smoking AT at campsite (and on cabin porches and other "designated" areas) is OKAY. No need for "enforcement" at campsites.

I don't understand the point of the posters talking @ Disney "enforcing" the non-smoking policy at campsites?

If you didn't read the link I posted above, smoking will be allowed at individual campsites and on the porches of cabins. The only thing changing at Ft. Wilderness is some of the public areas will have designated smoking areas. For example, smoking is no longer allowed on the porch at Trails End, only one corner of the pool deck(s) have smoking, etc., smoking will not be allowed inside the cabins at all.

Thanks clkelley..............

IMHO......... smoking stinks ........ and by the way bring back the peacocks........;)

I personally didn't mean that Disney had completely banned smoking-- I read the link-- just that worse-case scenario they would have a difficult time banning it at the campsites, if they wanted to. It sounds like it's set up just like you'd expect- if you're "home" you can smoke, but when you go out in "public" there are designated places.

I personally find it odd that there are still people smoking on the trails, etc, I've gotten so used to being able to only smoke in certain places that it wouldn't occur to me to just light up anywhere.

Just got back from FW on sunday, and for those who smoke (I know it's a bad habit, but I enjoy a pipe from time to time) I'm happy to report that smoking is allowed at the campsites:thumbsup2 , and throughout the camp ground. Only in the more public places is smoking restricted (such as trading posts and Trails End).

People still smoke in the parks in non-designated areas, and I see it numerous times every time we go, and it's been years since they put those rules into place. It's going to take even longer at the resorts, in my opinion.

Disney has done this as a way to have the appearance of being a place that only allows smoking in certain areas. However, it's very low on their totem pole of things to worry about. As I mentioned above, most cast members don't want a confrontation with a guest, it can lead to problems. And Disney is not going to have anyone walking around checking to see if people are smoking, that is very non "Disney-like".

Also, a lot of people probably won't even know about the new smoking policies at the Fort (or resorts) for years. We come to this forum, read the rules, we know what's going on. Most visitors probably never see the signs, don't understand what they mean when they do see them, or don't care. They make their reservations, and when they show up, they smoke as they always have. Chances are no one will ever say anything to them, so they'll continue to do what they've always done.

You'll see a reduction in the amount of people smoking, but in general, people walking out in the open are going to smoke if they want to, especially if it's not at a crowded park. The only difference now is that instead of seeing tons of posts about people smoking in the parks, now we're going to see tons of posts about people smoking in the resorts...lol

Since the question has been answered, I'm going to lock it up. Thanks for everyone's replies! :goodvibes
