Just got back from Disneyland, and I have got to say that some smokers are sooo rude! If you smoke, fine, but Disneyland has rules that you can only smoke in certain areas! I got so sick of people smoking where ever they please and were very rude to me when I told them that there are smoking areas to smoke in. I waited next to many rides that DH went on with my 2 little kids that were too small to ride (we did rider switch) and so many times people were smoking around me. And most people that I pointed out the designated smoking areas to did not care that they were not following rules (and it did not matter if I pointed out that I didn't want my kids near it since they were smoking with their kids right there!) one guy was the worst...he was smoking at the exit of Splash Mountain and I told him there are designated smoking areas and he said, "so." and I said I have kids that I don't want around it, again he said "so." finally a lady behind me said "she has a baby right here!" so he said "fine, get your way." and flipped me off several times as he was putting his cigarette out! Just needed to vent! Why can't people just follow the rules, they are not just suggestions!

I've seen this happen too, and the smoker looks at me like I'm the person in the wrong. I've had people refuse to stop, and I just grab the nearest cast member.

I had a similar situation happen last year, but bass-akwards. I'm hammering a nail by the Tomorrowland train station, when some gal comes walking by with a 'mock' cough. I asked if she was ok and she just glared at my smoke.

(of course that was where the smoking area was.at least at that time)

What a jerk. I probably would have reported him and his behavior to a CM.

They should make the designated smoking area the Timon Parking Lot and confiscate cigarette packs at security. Anyone caught smoking in non designated areas should be arrested and charged with attempted murder. But then again that's just my perfect world! :thumbsup2

OMG! that was so rude, I agree! and then you are shown the middle finger, at DL? WHOA, you know depending upon my mood, it could have gotten ugly! if anything, I would have looked for security or a cm, and in the meantime, I would tell him, don't you dare talk to me like that! and flip me off, especially seeing how I am a woman! don't you dare! (I had a similar conversation with an a hole in an in and out, it was regarding two pervs) then if he did not shut the hades up, I would simply continue to defend myself, verbally, all the while, looking around for help, because he is not shutting up, and going to a properly designated smoking area, and he is getting on my last damn nerve! and if was to dare to take a swing at me, be my guest, so far I have been fortunate enough, to not find out how well I could defend myself physically, but I sure would find out then, I would really prefer not to have to defend myself that way, at DL! for gods sakes, but if some little puke face smoking punk is going to try to hit me? I am not Amish, so therefore, go ahead and try, and as hard as I can, I will bust you up! even if it means, I end up with a black eye, or a broken rib, because you see, I am not going to tolerate some stupid man to hit me, and I just stand there like some kind of dope! forget it mister!! you know, I think I should learn karate or something! anyway, that is what I pretty much think and how I feel.
Thank god, the big dirt bad, finally left your presence.! I hope that you were able to enjoy the rest of your day, despite that Neanderthal! he should be sent over to the Matterhorn!
O.k. more or less off of my soap box!

I hate to say it because I might offend people who smoke on this Board, but selfishness is part of the smoker's personality. They generally don't think about who they are affecting around them when they smoke - in DL or elsewhere. Some smokers are very courteous, which is nice, but more times than not I have been subjected to the kind you are referring to - totally inconsiderate and unconcerned that anyone has to breathe in all of their crap.

I live in Los Angeles, and I cannot tell you how happy I was when we started outlawing smoking in clubs and bars and restaurants and now, even in certain OUTDOOR areas of those places. It was getting to be too much. If you have a bad habit, fine. Keep it your habit. But when other people have to inhale that stuff, you are affecting their health with your bad habit. I have no sympathy for the smokers who whine that their rights are being taken away from them. Too bad! Suffer!:cool1:

Your kids have a right to breathe clean air at Disneyland!

I am a smoker. (I know I need to quit!!! Next time I see my doc... anyway I don't want to go off topic)...

It is unbelievable to me that smokers can be so rude. I think they take it way to personally when they are asked to move, and I think they should be considerate enough to use the designated areas in the first place. :headache: I absolutely hate walking through an area w/ DD where someone is smoking, espcially when they are not supposed to be smoking there.

Which brings me to the designated areas... Now why in the world did they make that narrow path at the exit of autopia a smoking area??? What a dumb idea. Everyone who goes on that ride is forced to walk through all that smoke. This really bugs me because so many young children ride autopia. There is no alternative route for them. If they are going to bother with smoking areas, they need to be placed in appropriate locations.

I'm actually kind of surprised that CMs weren't on top of it in the situations that have been described. It seems to me that they usually are. :confused3

I wouldn't make the assumption that a cough was "mock". Surely isn't when I do it. And holding your breath all the way through that no-longer-there smoking area was really hard, and probably caused a strange expression on my face, so expect just about any look on peoples' faces.

Jenn1116, I've read that they moved that one now, back over near Matterhorn, I believe, where it's at a dead end (no accidentally walking through it).

Wow! That's fabulous. Must have gotten a lot of complaints? lol...

i do not know where all of the areas are for smokers but the one i do know of and hate the location is the one next to autopoia and right near the exit from the train.. Everytime we would exit the train you have to walk past all of the smokers and it's horrible.. I tell my kids to hold thier breath for a minute.
In a survey to disney i made note of how bad this area is for all the little kids getting off this popular transportation for the disneyland resort. So far no change. And lucky for me the ones i try to ask to use a designated area are not rude.. but im sure that is because my burly husband is 6'5. I remember one year one guy was just about to cuss me and all 5' of me out until he saw who I was with lol... I think the desinated area should be outside the park near the kennel..

Yes, you are 100% right. The designated smoking areas have to be in a place that makes sense, and at the narrow exit of a ride is not necessarily the best planning. They can't put them by the outdoor seating at restaurants, obviously, but there has to be a good spacious area for smokers somewhere, so that everyone is happy. Chances are the smoker in the OP's post was already having a bad day and hated being at DL, and decided that he was going to take his misery out on innocent people. I definitely don't think ALL smokers are like that jerk was, but some are quite selfish and unconcerned. Most of my friends have smoked at one time or another but they usually kept it away from me and now they have all quit. They definitely caught my wrath if they puffed anywhere near my face!

Ah! I hate ppl who don't smoke where they're supposed to. I always say to whoever I'm w/, "They're not smoking in the designated smoking area." It frustrates me so much!
I hate walking by the Frontierland one. It takes such a long time to hold my breath. And I also hate the Tomorrowland one bc it's right where the Tomorrowland Station is. That's why I never board the train in Tomorrowland.

We were there in July and Tomorrowland station/Autopia smoking area is still there. We never ride Autopia and rarely exit the train in Tomorrowland. If/when we do my girls hold their noses and don't breathe as we walk thru there. We get nasty looks but I give them right back. Smoking is disgusting. Most CM's that we have reported smokers to (only when they are in the wrong place) don't seem to care, only 1 time in all of our trips from 7-07 to 7-08 (with AP's) did a CM say anything to the person smoking. And that person was actually very nice about it, they said "oh, we didn't realize, where can we smoke" and the CM pointed to the Autopia spot, we were at Innoventions at the time. Oh and the coughing, I will cough if I inhale it, I have a mild allergy, not enough to kill me but it can cause asthma issues. I only have asthma if I inhale smoke or have bronchitis so I don't carry an inhaler with me, having an attack from smoke at DL would be bad......

As for being nice about it, my BFF's DBF smokes, but he knows he hate it so he never smokes around us. When we went to DL with them he never stopped for a cigarette, he only smoked in the morning and at night, he smoked 2 at a time (one after the other) but that was only because he knew he wouldn't get another one until park closing. :) So not all smokers are jerks about it but the majority are IME.

OP I'm sorry you had a bad experience, I would have been all up in the guys Kool-Aid, especially seeing as you had a baby with you!!

From micechat in June:

Last year, Disney had to move the Tomorrowland Smoking section due to the opening of the new Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage attraction and the need for an extended queue. The only place they could figure out where to place it was the pathway between the Autopia Entrance and the Tomorrowland Train Station.

Disney is moving the area this week to the Fantasia Gardens area (also known as the former Motor Boat Dock area).

But a PP just said it was still in the pathway this month, so that's odd.

I wonder if people are still smoking there out of habit. We'll be able to find out if the signs are still in place to designate it. I did see signs at the old Phantom Boat/Fantasyland dock 2 weeks ago indicating that it was a smoking area.

I also thought the Tomorrowland area was poor planning and was one of the people who actually took the time to go into City Hall and fill out a complaint card on that smoking area. (The car exhaust from Autopia mingling with the smoke just didn't help it any...) We didn't go into DL Saturday, when we went into DCA, so I'll check when I'm there on Wednesday and report back. If the signs are still there to indicate it as a designated area, I'll stop in at City Hall and fill out another card!

Nancy

I was there June 29 and 30th.
I did not see anyone smoking out of the smoking areas once.
