Design Star (spoiler alert)

Will is gonna be the next to go. He looks and thinks mature somehing the judge probably dont want. Kim has a chance if she cooks up something fabulous for the final challenge. Sparkle Josh also would have been a great host but odds are in favor of Todd.

I always hope that companies who hire designers watch the show. Sparkle Josh would be FABULOUS working at PB Teen, or Pier One Kids, or designing interiors of stores like Limited Too and Justice. My girls (11 and 14) LOVED his stuff!!!

I also hope that folks in Will's geographic area are watching, because I think he should be getting a lot of new clients from this.

True. It also seems Vern is being particularly unpleasant this time around. I wonder if they told him to be more of a "Simon" this year.

I was at least glad that everyone acknowledged how tough it was to try to get a kitchen done so quickly.

I missed the first ten minutes of the show so I don't know how they were paired up or assigned which room, but the team that had the kitchen would have naturally had the greater challenger and whoever was paired with Robb was set up for a fight. I think Kim held her own much better than I expected. He was argumentative, condescending, and full of himself. Those aren't exactly endearing qualities.

I really felt for Kim. Even if she was personally adverse to confrontation, she HAD to talk back to him, lest the judges perceive her as merely the note taker.

With Robb there is NO collaboration or compromise...it's his way...period. He would be a nightmare for any homeowner who had their own opinions about things.

:sad1: I miss Sparkle Josh!! :sad1:

This is my first season watching Design Star and it's pretty good so far. I was surprised to hear that Robb was gone since I didn't watch last nights show but don't worry I'm not upset with spoilers.

So who else here just doesn't buy Clive as a "bad guy". Everytime I see him frown at someone I think how unatural that looks on him. I want to tell him to "Lighten up Clivie." :rotfl2:

Yeah, I agree that Clive should stick with being a nice guy.

We watched a marathon yesterday and I was hooked. I was cheering when Robb was done! What a jerk! I would never watch a show hosted by someone who treats people like that.

I told DH by the 2nd or 3rd show that if Robb won, I'd never watch his show as I think he's an arrogant ***. So glad he went home but sad it took this long!

I think Will is next out. Nice guy, nice designs, but don't get much personality out of him. I think Todd will eventually win out and I'd watch his show - IF it wasnt' as cheeseball as David's.

I must be in the minority- I like Davids show. I LOVE his artwork.

As far as Rob- what a jerk. My husband who never watches it caught a bit of it and said that Rob was an a$$ and full of himself. Yeah, he's been like that since the first episode.
I have not been happy at all this season.I think they did need more individual challenges this year.

I'm going to be in the minority with you...though I don't watch it very often.

You should have heard the unison YES!! from the three girls when Robb show was cancelled.

I think the producers rigged it so that Robb & Todd couldn't team together.

I would love to see Kim's show...she had the best spiel last night...albeit a little fast.

Oh I agree with you!! I like David, but I do not like his show at all. Which is too bad, because I think he has talent.

I agree 100%. David has such talent, but he is so uncomfortable in front of the cameras that it is difficult to watch. All his actions and spoken lines on the show seem so forced. Although he is wonderfully creative, he has absolutely no acting abilities.

Which is why I think they judges would prefer Kim. You can always hire designers to help her out in the background. But you can't put somebody else in front of the camera. You really don't need the best designer, but you do need the best host.

I think HGTV has a losing prospect with David and they really need to have a designer with good on-air presence.

However, it will be America's choice.

About Robb - his designs were pretty good, not my favorite, but still good. And I think he might have been a good show host. How many TV personalities are successful because they are the ones you love to hate? You want to tune in just to see the trainwreck that is going to happen. I think he could have been a successful novelty for a season or two. You would tune in just to see who he was going to tick off that particular week.

That would work on the Apprentice or Survivor but not as a host of a show for an HGTV or Food Network. These people represent the network and bring people in like they're a neighbor.

I doubt if I'd want to go to Robb's for coffee... :scared:

Maybe on another network, but I don't think that's the type of host that HGTV is trying to cultivate. I can just see him talking down to some female homeowner and telling her that she doesn't know jack and that she needs to let him do whatever he wants...a bit tense for the normal HGTV audience. ("Buy Me" gets too tense for my DDs."

I doubt if I'd want to go to Robb's for coffee... :scared:

Right...he'd serve it to you black and if you wanted cream or sugar, well he'd just tell you that HE knows coffee and YOU don't and only one person can be in charge of serving the coffee and that's him!:rotfl:

IMO it's pretty out there to say Robb would treat homeowners poorly based on his treatment of the other people on the show he was forced to work with.

The other people on the show (especially Will) have been just as nasty to him as he has been with them. That's why I agreed there should have been more individual challenges. In fact, IMO, Kim and Will looked very weak in the one indiviual challenge I saw while Robb did very well.

I've been chastised for putting the results in the first sentence, so I'm going to write this extra sentence even though I put "spoiler alert" in the title. There.

Chastised?

There was really no reason for that kind of snarkyness. I simply pointed out something about spoilers that comes up pretty often.

As much as I hate to admit it, I guess you're right. Robb gave the wedding couple exactly what they asked for, even though (IMO), it was tacky beyond belief. The lady who was cancelled first in that challenge tried to ignore the groom's (IMO terrible) suggestions and was judged least successful. Sparkle Josh tried to take what they said and "class it up" but they didn't like that either. Robb gave them red Rockabilly Vegas with lavender boas and they loved it.

BUT, they didn't have to interface with him during the project. I think that with such a short temper, it would come out during the course of a normal real life, problem ridden, tension filled, budget busting actual home remodel.

Like Hilde on Trading Spaces - what-will-she-do-to-the-walls today?

Exactly. And Doug wasn't always the friendliest to his co-workers or the homeowners. How many times did he absolutely ignore the homeowners on their wishes such as leaving the brick on the fireplace. Yet Hilde and Doug were the main two designers many people tuned in to watch. I loved Vern on the show too but the "nice" ones who did exactly as the homeowners wanted made the show boring and predictable.

I thought Robb was a jerk to the rest of the crew, but he always seemed to take the homeowner's wishes to heart. Just look at the wedding. I thought it horrible, but the couple absolutely loved it. He nailed exactly what they were asking for.

I think everybody is exactly right in that Robb would be totally unsuccessful in having to deal with families if he was decorating their house in real life. But this is a TV show. People who sign up to have their homes decorated by a jerk know what they are getting into. And like Hilde and Doug, it was a weird pleasure watching what evil they did to the owner's houses. Really, does anybody believe for a second that Hilde would put feathers or straw on an actual client's walls? I don't think so. But the shock value on tv = great ratings.

HGTV is filled to the brim with wonderfully sweet designers that do amazing jobs for their clients. Robb would have been an interesting contrast to that lineup. I for one am almost sorry to see him go.
