We just got back from our Disneyland trip. We stayed at the Desert Inn & Suites. We stayed there several years ago and loved it, especially the location, but on our trips since then the price was never right and we ended up staying somewhere else. I was very excited to be staying there again this trip.
We got the parlor suite room, with the 2 queen beds and then a separate living area as we like to be able to stay up and watch tv after putting the kids to bed.
Everything was going great- we even added a night to our stay- until the last night. About 11:30 that night a bunch of teenagers checked in to the room next to us. Not only did we hear them come racing down the walkway out front but then they were so loud that it literally sounded like they were IN our room talking, laughing, watching tv, listening to the radio. They opened their side of the connecting doors and were pounding on our side, saying "Where does this door go?" I called down to the front desk and they said they would call them and ask them to quiet down. They never did, which I know, because I could hear EVERY word said in that room. I gave it about a half hour before I called down again. The man on the phone said that a large group had just checked in, almost excusing their behavior. I told him that I realize that, because I can hear every word they say, but that my family was trying to sleep. This time I heard him call them and when they hung up, the girls made some comment about "I didnt really get most of that but I think our neighbors don't like us very much. It must be the tv". So they turned the TV off but never quieted down. I finally drifted off to sleep somewhere around 1:30, only to be awoken by them at 6am.
I do have to say, though, that we complained to the manager when we checked out and he discounted that last night's stay by about half so they do get credit for that. I'm not sure how much of the problem was how noisy the kids were and how much is the sound proofing of the rooms. There were large gaps in the connecting door, at least on our side.
I do love the DI for it's closeness to Disneyland though, so I think if I could be guaranteed a non-connecting room I would probably stay there again.
Here's some pictures of our room. We were in room 412 and the noise makers were in 411.
