We just got back from our Disneyland trip. We stayed at the Desert Inn & Suites. We stayed there several years ago and loved it, especially the location, but on our trips since then the price was never right and we ended up staying somewhere else. I was very excited to be staying there again this trip.

We got the parlor suite room, with the 2 queen beds and then a separate living area as we like to be able to stay up and watch tv after putting the kids to bed.

Everything was going great- we even added a night to our stay- until the last night. About 11:30 that night a bunch of teenagers checked in to the room next to us. Not only did we hear them come racing down the walkway out front but then they were so loud that it literally sounded like they were IN our room talking, laughing, watching tv, listening to the radio. They opened their side of the connecting doors and were pounding on our side, saying "Where does this door go?" I called down to the front desk and they said they would call them and ask them to quiet down. They never did, which I know, because I could hear EVERY word said in that room. I gave it about a half hour before I called down again. The man on the phone said that a large group had just checked in, almost excusing their behavior. I told him that I realize that, because I can hear every word they say, but that my family was trying to sleep. This time I heard him call them and when they hung up, the girls made some comment about "I didnt really get most of that but I think our neighbors don't like us very much. It must be the tv". So they turned the TV off but never quieted down. I finally drifted off to sleep somewhere around 1:30, only to be awoken by them at 6am.

I do have to say, though, that we complained to the manager when we checked out and he discounted that last night's stay by about half so they do get credit for that. I'm not sure how much of the problem was how noisy the kids were and how much is the sound proofing of the rooms. There were large gaps in the connecting door, at least on our side.

I do love the DI for it's closeness to Disneyland though, so I think if I could be guaranteed a non-connecting room I would probably stay there again.

Here's some pictures of our room. We were in room 412 and the noise makers were in 411.

We stayed there for the first time in January. I LOVED how close we were. Our room was clean. The hotel just doesn't have any personality. It's almost depressing. I guess it's from staying onsite at WDW all these years....I'm used to staying in a "happy" hotel.

People just were not friendly. I'm not talking about the employees, I'm talking about the guests. Everyone seemed to have a frown. We tried to get breakfast one morning, but found a huge line. We waited for awhile, but it felt so strange. Everyone just standing there in silence. We decided to head to the park and grab a muffin on MS.

We poked our head into the pool room one late night. There were 3 adults sitting in the hot tub who gave us dirty looks as we walked in. My daughters felt this also and told me they were no longer interested in swimming. The hot tub was full of dingy bubbles. It was disgusting.

One of our nights I awoke to a large party in the courtyard area. It was obvious that it was teenagers/young adults. I was about to phone the front desk when one of the girls in the group started to vomit loudly. The group seemed to just abandon her, it was totally quiet except the sounds of her puking for 10 minutes.

I think some teenagers/young adults must rent out those bigger suites. I bet it's become a cheap party hangout for locals.

I did reserve a suite for our October stay because we are taking my nephew and the suite would work out perfectly for 2 adults and 6 kids. Now I'm having second thoughts and might return to the Hojo.

There has been some very negative discussions about Desert Inn this weekend that have given me second thoughts on my choice.

The first 3 nights we had no problems. Our room was clean- actually kinda smelled like new carpeting or something had just been redone and we even saw some rooms they were in the process of redoing. The most noise we heard, coming from the same room-411, was the faint sound of a baby crying at wake up time and the TV for a few seconds because the volume must have been left up and when they turned it on it was too loud, but they immediately lowered it.

These teenagers were all there for a cheerleading competition or band competition or something. One of the adults in the group made a halfway apology to my husband as he went to the car to get something at 6:30am since he was no awake due to them. Said something about "sorry, I tried to keep them quiet." Umm, no you didn't, because we didn't hear a single adult voice all night.
