Good morning,
I believe I can answer your questions about the Anaheim Desert Inn and The Good Neighbor Hotel Program. Anaheim Desert Inn is in fact a Good Neighbor Hotel and has been for several years. They havent had a name change over 20 years and yes, Disney would for sure have a fit if they said it was a Good Neighbor Hotel and was not (by fit, I mean lawsuit!).
The reason that you do not see them on the Walt Disney Travel web site is because they do not have a contract to sell rooms with Walt Disney Travel, which is not required to be a Good Neighbor Hotel. There are a few Good Neighbor Hotels that are not Walt Disney Travel Partners. Because Desert Inn is an extremely busy hotel, they do not need to partner with Walt Disney Travel to fill their rooms (you also wont find Desert Inn up front on Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz or any of the other travel sites. They do not need to discount to these partners to sell their rooms. They would rather give the discount to you, the guest of the hotel.
As for packages - add it up, you usually get a better deal on your own. Anaheim Desert Inn has the same tickets that the other Good Neighbor Hotels have at their Front Desk, which is always a better deal than you can get at the gate.
There is a big statue of Mickey in the lobby which is known as MickyAngelo. That is only in the lobbies of Good Neighbor Hotels.
I hope this helps. Thanks,
Fred
