DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. -- While crowds flocked to the beach for the Labor Day holiday, one young visitor was bitten by a small shark in Daytona Beach Shores.

The Volusia County Beach Patrol said a small shark bit a 12-year-old girl on her arm as she was wading in waist-high water, WESH 2 News reported.

Authorities said the girl had approximately one dozen small puncture wounds.

The Orlando girl is the 13th victim of a shark encounter in Volusia County for 2007.

Yikes! I've only ever been to beaches on the Gulf of Mexico but I don't imagine the sharks are picky about which beach they swim up to :lmao:

There seems to be a LOT of shark attacks in the past few months, at the Gulf Coast mainly, but now this !!

Somehow I don't think I'll be swimming in the sea this year at all.
At least I can swim safely in a swimming pool.
