Um, wasn't that David Bowie?

Well, low-key wasn't entirely off with Elton John either. He had a song "Rocket Man" Similar idea to Major Tom. Catchy tune but if you really listened to the words and thought about what it meant it was also kind of depressing. Not as depressing as Major Tom, but still...

And speaking of Elton John, how about "Candle in the Wind"
Also, "If I Die Young" by Thompson Square
and
"One" by Metallica (any song based on Johnny Got His Gun is going to be depressing because that is one depressing novel.)
