Happens to me every year around this time. I want to go back to Disney. NOt sure I can swing it this year. We got back from a week stay at the Beach Club in May...and we had a marvelous time.

I may start planning another vacation to somewhere to get my spirits up. Any one have any suggestions on places to vacay other then Disney?

Just curious.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Well we just moved from Maine to Texas and I'm missing Maine:( we leave for our first Disney trip in a week though. What about doing a value resort at Disney?

I found that when ever I plan another vacation, I stop in the middle and say this is going to cost as much as Disney. So then I go to Disney.
Before you count Disney out, add up the cost of other vacations and see if it is less expensive.

Smokie Mountains are beautiful.
Bald Head Island North Carolina-it is an island were cars are not allowed. Main transportation is a golf cart. It is a blast. It is accessed by a 20 minute ferry ride. Bird watching, kayaking, sea turtles, beaches, and a lot of wildlife.

Hi there,
I'm going to price the values. There maybe 5 of us so a value is out unless I do a suite & those are pretty expensive compared to POR.

Texas must be alot different then Maine. But at least you won't have snow. :thumbsup2

True. I'll do some more work on the budget. Seems like airfare does us in everytime. Crazy expensive. Thank you for the advice.

We go to my in-laws house on the Kennebeck River every August. Love it there! I just dont consider that vacation though lol

We have been flip flopping Disney and Cancun every year for the past 4 years now I think. This year we are staying at the Royal Sands and renting from an owner. We love it there. Cancun for us is a vacation and Disney is an adventure!

DH has spent a lot of time depressed in Maine lately, too! He had to spend 3 separate weeks up there over the past maybe 2 months in a teeny, nothing to do town for work. The thread title made me laugh since that's been the theme of our summer.

I have a house on the Kennebec River!!!! Where do your in-laws live?

In your shoes, I'd jump at the chance for easier access to Boston, New York, Philadelphia. Being in the midwest, getting there is a chore.

Cruising and the beach are the favorite vacations of my kids. Then as a PP mentioned, do a city vacation. We've been to Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, NYC, and DC.

Any way you could swing the drive there instead of airfare? I know it's a long ride but with two drivers can probably be done in two days. Also there was an airline doing CHEAP flights to Sanford Florida out if Bangor I can't recall which one

Well NYC during Christmas is nice with the show at Rockefellar and the tree. All the store windows made up so nicely. DC is always a nice trip with all the museums and great food. Not Disney but its still a trip!

Have you considered renting points to stay DVC? Might be cheaper.

Allegiant Air offers flight btw Bangor & Sanford on Thursdays and Sundays. There are some good prices depending on when you want to go. I found a flight leaving on Halloween day and returning a week later for $1,237.50 for the entire family.

Allegiant also flys out of Portsmouth, NH is you live in the lower part of the state. I found a flight leaving Nov 11th returning Nov 17th for 5 ppl for $900.

Conversely, the cheapest flight out of Portland on those days is $1,428 for the entire family (and the flight times stink).

we like alternating cruising and Disney. I love the caribbean, but now DH says he is tired of cruising.. ugh. So our spring vacation is going to be Universal Studios for the first time. Before i decided on that we picked Holiday Inn Sunspree in Jamaica. Cheap and awesome looking beach. Then i saw on the CDC website that you can get Hep A and Typhoid from eating/drinking so that made me want to find something else until DD2 is a little older. DH wants something new, so he likes the idea of Universal, although it doesn't thrill me much, but the Royal Pacific resort looks gorgeous.

Thank you for all the posts. We have done multiple trips to Boston and may do a side trip to see the Red Sox next year. But kinda wanted to do a week vacation somewhere. Kids were thinking Virginia - Jamestown, Williamsburg...etc. Maybe a couple days in PA.

We did take Allegiant (from Bangor) to Sanford this time but by the time you add suitcases to the price and picking out your own seats for the price. We were at the same price as US Air out of Bangor. But with Allegiant being a direct flight we went with them anyways. The direct flight was great!

I did send some clothes and snacks ahead of time via UPS so that did cut down on the number of suitcases and carry on.

Thank you again for all the posts. I'm going to read through each one again!

There would be tons of stuff to do in DC for a week and the drive is doable from ME. SW flights out of Portland are pretty well priced too.

There is a ton of stuff to do in the Southern Maine area why not spend a week there? Or in the White Mountains, tons of family friendly activities!

There are also more cruises going out of NY and New Jersey now, maybe drive down and pick one of those up?

I live in Southern Maine and I love it, especially this time of year, there's tons to do for a vacation in day!

DC is another possibility. My sister lives in Kittery so we visit the southern Maine area frequently and also the White Mountains we visit every summer. Great advice but kids are kinda "been there done that." They want to go somewhere new. It is a gorgeous area though.

Yes...My sister took a cruise out of NJ - that is also a possibility.

Thanks,
Joanne

So glad you posted this OP!! We live in central Virginia, and love Williamsburg and Va Beach. Although they're only 40 miles apart, the tunnel traffic is an unpredictable killer. I'd recommend 4 days in Williamsburg; Busch Gardens, Water Country, and Colonial Williamsburg. I think you can get a deal by bundling those tickets, or at least you always could.

Then, cross through the tunnel, and spend 2-3 days in Va. Beach.

We are also in Maine, although we don't usually feel depressed until January when we are buried in endless snow. What about going north? We have a friend in New Brunswick and visited them and find that Canada is really enjoyable and different then Maine. Then there is always Quebec which is cool too. Or Prince Edward Island....
