I was totally shocked when I found out that my TT depreciated almost by half in ONE YEAR of owning it. We were thinking of trading up and getting a bigger one (trying to keep up to the Jones's I suppose), not that we really need to. Our TT hybrid works well for us and the only reason I thought about it was because all of our friends seem to be going bigger and better and I was thinking (for a brief second) that we should too. I called a few dealers and they said they would give us 10,000 for ours. I just bought it brand new last year and paid 17,500 plus taxes which came to a tad less than 20,000. I know now that I am keeping this baby FOREVER!!!
What is the average that our TT'S depreciate annually?

That is the depreciation that comes from just driving it off the dealers lot. It goes from New to Used in those 10 feet, and there goes the value. It should hold its value much better now, it's already used, now it is just getting older LOL.

Yep the only thing that falls faster than TT and vehicles is the Space Shuttle on re-entry. :lmao: :cool1: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Of course since I have to pay personal property taxes on my TT here in Va. at $4.50 per $100 in value I like the depreciation and since I keep them till they are antiques ... the last one we had for over 26 years that's fine with me.

I'm lucky, mine is still worth more than I paid for it (low retail) according to NADA. It's weird, folks on the west coast and northern states seem to have to pay waaaay more for them than us in the southeast.

I think your camper is the cat's meow. It a modern version of a classic travel trailer. What were the old ones called?

There were all kinds of names, teardrops, shastas, canned hams, Scotty's, standies, casita, etc. all under the umbrella of Tiny Travel Trailers.

The T@Bs are in the shape of teardrops but bigger.

The original teardrops were 4x8 and made of aluminum and only had a bed on the inside and a kitchen in the back.

"Canned Hams" I wanna buy just cause of the name. :thumbsup2

My camper listed for 37k but I paid around 26k. I probably couldn't get 20k for the thing now with fuel prices being what they are. You can write off your camper interest if it has a kitchen and bathroom as a 2nd home. Does it really make a difference? Not really.

Those that have hybrids and pop ups we salute you and envy you lol. Lone-Star made some good comments on another thread about my situation. If I traded I would lose about 6k and it's just not worth it. Maybe we can do a camper swap and those of us who live near the fort can swap ours for those of you who live near Stone Mountain and the Smokeys lol.

You learned the hard way why camping is a life style choice and not a value choice...........hang in there and roll the wheels off that thing.....;)

I would love to swap for Stone Mountain or the smokeys!!

I bought my pop-up new (a 2005 Jayco 12HW) and got a really good deal on it based on a mistake by the dealer and they manned up.

Originally I was going to buy a 14-footer pup (which Jayco had discontinued) which was still brand new and needing a home. The dealer checked my vehicle tow capacity versus the stated weight info of the trailer (in the catelog) and things were fine. So we negotiated a price and I got a call the day before I was to pick it up (I had delayed two weeks to get the hitch installed on the minivan) and the dealer was very apologetic and told me they had checked the tag/label weight on the camper itself which was different from the catalog stated weights. Now the weight was too great for my tow vehicle.

So the dealer offered me the 12HW at a steeply discounted price to keep my business which I accepted. Four years later my NADA value for the pup is 75% of what I paid for it. I would have liked to have had the 14-footer with the couch and big slide out dinette (bigger than what's in the 12HW) but our current camper has worked great for us.

Stack, if you feel REALLY jealous of us pup owners, I know how to relieve your anxiety. Since your visits and mine have overlapped twice already in two years, maybe next time you can give me your golf cart for my personal use during our stay. Your guilt will be washed away as I cruise by and wave at you from your cart! :rotfl2: I'll bring it back, I promise.

PS-Diva, I guess we all have to negotiate the best deals possible; it's up to you whether you want "new" or "new-to-you" and what features. Like Donald Trump says, there's always somebody who got a better deal!

PPS-Having said all this, I covet Ckelley's teardrop. So small and cute!

Sorry Ed but it's sold. I wasn't using it like I thought. Batteries were weak and if I buy another it's gonna be gas. You're pup is a nice one and I was just thinking, can I come get it to go to the Smokeys lol. It'll save me some fuel lol. It goes to show you bigger is not better. If I had my druthers I'd have done it way different.

Well then maybe if you gave me your truck
