DH and I are thinking of taking an Eastern cruise on a Royal Caribbean ship. Does anyone know how much of a deposit is required to reserve a cabin?

I believe the norm is $250 per person. Sometimes there are reduced deposits during promotions.

This is from royal's faq (note they are per room, not person):

Deposit requirements vary based on length of cruise and the type of stateroom reserved. Generally, deposit guidelines are $200 per stateroom for 1 to 5 night cruises, $500 per stateroom for 6 to 9 night cruises and $900 per stateroom for 10 night or longer cruises. Suite categories do require a double deposit since there are a limited number of suites. Please contact us at 1-800-465-3595 for more information.

I think they may be higher for holiday sailings (like Christmas or New Years), or final payment may be due early, or both. I'm not sure of the details because we don't sail then, but something to be aware of.

We just booked a week or two ago and the girl at RCCL had us pay a deposit that was, I believe, $150 per person? It was a reduced rate she said, and she told me its usually $250 per person.

We paid $250 per person and that even included the room in which 3 were in for a total of $750 for that room. This was for a 7 night cruise in October so not high time. Maybe it varies based on travel agencies.

I booked a grand suite in October for two adults and two children earlier this month and it was $1000 deposit.

If you make an onboard booking, the deposit is $100 pp, and you'll receive an OBC based on the length of the cruise. The deposit might be more for a suite.

Right now part of the special on many cruises is a reduced deposit. So newbies to RCCL booking now are seeing something that's out of the norm. :). Just be aware that for the future it's generally 250 pp! *

Sure does reduce the final payment, though!

*as the other dis'er said, unless you book a next cruise onboard of course.

Yep, suites are double deposit. And if you're in a non-suite room and upgrade to a suite before final payment, you will have to pay the extra deposit when you upgrade.
