deposit on cash room question

OP i am sorry this happened to you however it's the buyer's responsibility to know the facts ((we all know the buyer beware spiel)) ... and to hold onto a room which someone could have used is just plain wrong especially because you knew you weren't going to use it, it wasn't like an emergency occured and the vacation was the last thing on your mind, this was planned. You should have definitely cancelled the reservations and not leave it for someone else (Disney) to determine and second guess whether to keep or cancel a reservation.

That being said should you be responsible for the whole stay I am not certain but I can see Disney charging you full rate for one night... the thing is when you book through MS you are holding with your DVC account so they know where to go to. Did Disney try and contact you while the vacation was on to see if you were coming in?

I called member accounting today and all is well. :yay:

Where are the facts written? I was not told about the cancellation policy and I was surprised when I didn't need to put down a deposit. I don't know why the cm didn't explain the policy when I asked about the deposit, but she didn't. When I didn't send a deposit, I thought the reservation was null and void as has been the case in all my other Disney reservations for the past 16 years. I was not trying to hold a room so that no one else could have it! Why would I have done that?! I had a room at SSR and didn't think I had any other reservation pending.

Bookwormde - that was smart of you to cancel to be sure. I usually do things like that but, for some reason, in this case I didn't.

I think the policy should be on the confirmation, which it wasn't.

No, I don't really think Disney should have realized to cancel a reservation, of course not - that would be ridiculous and I wasn't serious. But I don't know how they can charge for the full reservation when someone is a no show and there was no deposit and no explanation of penalty written. After the first night, people are obviously not coming. Maybe charging for one night is understandable, if that is written somewhere.

Anyway, lesson learned. Hopefully this thread has helped others, too.

I have a cash reservation at Vero Beach for next April and just received the confirmation today. In all caps at the bottom of the sheet it says:

CANCELLATION MUST BE MADE MORE THAN 5 DAYS BEFORE CHK-IN

This is exactly what I was told when I called and she did tell me that I would be responsible for one-night's rate if I didn't cancel. A CC was not take, but considering how much information they have about us--that's probably not a problem!

Alexander - she did tell me that I would be responsible for one-night's rate if I didn't cancel
One night would have been slightly understandable, but I was charged for 3 nights.

If I knew how to scan a copy of my confirmation for this thread, I would. My confirmation doesn't say anything about a cancellation.

Maybe I'm not the first person to have had this problem and they realize they must put it on the confirmation (or they are just inconsistent); I would find it hard to believe that I'm the only one who expected them to take a deposit or cancel the reservation.

I may have had a new cm.
