DH is getting ready to deploy at the end of the month to Qatar. He will be gone for 40 - 50 days. Unfortunatly, this ends up falling right over Christmastime. I have been pretty okay with everything, but as the days lead up to it, I keep getting more and mre nervous about him leaving. He also told me this morning that if the new group that comes over to relieve them is short on people, he will probably stay over for another 40 - 50 days. This is the first "real" deployment since we have been together (it will be 6 years at the end of this mother). He was in Virginia for 35 days in 2002, and was in Israel for 18 days in April of this year. I am just worried that the holidays are going to be so depressing this year, because last year's were not good for me either, with undergoing my chemo. Just needed to get my thoughts out a bit.
I feel your pain and hope you have family or a support group near. It is not a fun time for many families in the military, specially with the upcoming holidays. Our son has another 9 months in Iraq. We try to think positive and depend greatly on our faith, family and prayer circle for hope and encouragement. Easier said than done I know, but also helps to get invloved and try too keep busy. Our new DIL is having her ups and downs, but, I think it is only natural. You, your family and your soldier are in many hearts and prayers through these tough times. Thanks to your family for the sacrifice and God Bless!
and will not be here for the holidays. But we are sending him Christmas in a box-just sent one and will send another tomorrow or next week. Little tree, stocking, gifts, Christmas snacks. When her returns for R&R early next year, he will have a stocking from Santa here too. We did this during Desert Storm and it worked well. We have kids and have to keep their spirits up during the holidays. We plan to talk to him on the Web cam Christmas morning, and we will both send lots of digitals.
