DH is getting ready to deploy at the end of the month to Qatar. He will be gone for 40 - 50 days. Unfortunatly, this ends up falling right over Christmastime. I have been pretty okay with everything, but as the days lead up to it, I keep getting more and mre nervous about him leaving. He also told me this morning that if the new group that comes over to relieve them is short on people, he will probably stay over for another 40 - 50 days. This is the first "real" deployment since we have been together (it will be 6 years at the end of this mother). He was in Virginia for 35 days in 2002, and was in Israel for 18 days in April of this year. I am just worried that the holidays are going to be so depressing this year, because last year's were not good for me either, with undergoing my chemo. Just needed to get my thoughts out a bit.

Thank you from me & my family. We are grateful to him, you and to all military families for all that you do.

I'm always just a PM away if you need to talk or vent.

You and your husband are heroes. Thank you for your service to our country.

Can you squeeze a little Christmas celebration in before he leaves? That might make the holidays a little easier to deal with.

THANK YOU! What hero's both of you are! Both of you will be in my prayers.

:sad1: I feel your pain and hope you have family or a support group near. It is not a fun time for many families in the military, specially with the upcoming holidays. Our son has another 9 months in Iraq. We try to think positive and depend greatly on our faith, family and prayer circle for hope and encouragement. Easier said than done I know, but also helps to get invloved and try too keep busy. Our new DIL is having her ups and downs, but, I think it is only natural. You, your family and your soldier are in many hearts and prayers through these tough times. Thanks to your family for the sacrifice and God Bless!

Keep the faith ^i^,

I'm sorry that you won't have him around for the holidays. You have the strength to get through it. I know this even though I don't know you..lol..It's going to suck. I won't lie. Last year my Dh missed all of the first year being married together. I don't think it gets any easier if you have had 5 months or 50 years together. Deployments just stink. Keep something of his or from him around you at all times. I wear a locket that my dh gave me when we were dating. I worry it constantly but looking at it gives me the smile remembering when I got it. Keep yourself busy especially through the holidays. If you have time volunteer in shelters or helping trying to get toys donated. Have get togethers with your friends or other service wives. They are going through all the same things you are. No matter what don't give up the faith and hope. Get a calendar and start marking off the days everynight. It means that you got through one more day with your honey there but you are one more day closer to him being back home. If you ever want to chat please feel free to PM me.

Now go love on your veteran,
Tina

Best wishes, hopes and dreams to you as the date becomes nearer.

God Bless You and Your Family!

Thank you, as well.

I am sending hugs your way because I know how hard deployments are around the holiday. If there is a postive side to this Qatar is a great place to be deployed to!! My ds compared it to an older resort area and loved it for the 2 weeks he was there to work. He has very fond memories of the trip so while its going to be hard to be away from your family, if you have to be deployed, its a nice place to be. (((((hugs)))))

Said perfectly! Thank you. You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Like 4nana's son, my DH has another 9 months in Iraq too:( and will not be here for the holidays. But we are sending him Christmas in a box-just sent one and will send another tomorrow or next week. Little tree, stocking, gifts, Christmas snacks. When her returns for R&R early next year, he will have a stocking from Santa here too. We did this during Desert Storm and it worked well. We have kids and have to keep their spirits up during the holidays. We plan to talk to him on the Web cam Christmas morning, and we will both send lots of digitals.
There are lots of "us" here on the Dis who have a loved one in that area this Christmas-we can keep each other company! :D

Thank you so much for all the kind thoughts and words. What helps me is that all my family is in the area that I live in. I just worry about the kids. DS is 5, and DSD (DH's daughter) is 11. I am also hoping that DSD will want to come and spend time with us (She lives about an hour, hour and a half south of us) while her daddy is gone.

Thank your dear husband for his service. May God be with all of you.. we always here for you.. ((((((hugs)))))

I can't put it onto words any better than Esmerelda did....Hero seems like such a short word for all our soldiers and their families sacrafice, please know that it is appreciated and I am genuinley humbold. Take care and stay with us here on the DIS...Maybe do a little Holiday celebration ahead of time? Heck, the mall had decorations up before Halloween...so I guess it's Holiday Season already!
