My hubby works for a Military Navy Yard as a Department of Defence (DOD) worker. I called Shades of Green and was told that yes we do get the Military discount. I just want to know if other DOD employees use the SOG discounts??

I guess I am just still at the " I cant believe this is true" point

We are going Jan and staying at the CR

Absolutely, any DOD employee can use SOG. You can also get the discount park passes. It's not "cheating", it's clearly specified. In fact, if you go to the SOG web site, it lists prices based on military rank and GS/WG civil service rates. I worked with a guy who did this about 3 years ago, and I've often thought about it. But I'm a relatively high GS, and I don't get much of a price break.

Yup it's true, my best friend works out of the Pentagon for DOD and is planning on staying at Shades of Green on her next trip.

We stayed at SOG and loved it. I used to feel guilty when dh got these kind of benefits since he wasn't military. Then along came 9/11 and the war and I realized just how crucial dh's role is in our national security. Now I use the benefits proudly with no apology. While I still feel the most deserving are those on the front lines and their families, I know the people supporting them behind the scenes are deserving too!

Thank you all for the info. I guess I can relax a bit now. I keep having nighmares of showing up at CR and them telling me DOD cant stay here for the SOG rate. LOL
