I asked a couple of weeks ago for some help with getting a nasty smell out of my fridge freezer. Thank you to those who offered advice. I wanted to share what I found worked.
The smell had been there for a few weeks despite removing any food that was remotely close to being out of date and placing brand new boxes of baking soda. Tonight I took everything out of both sides. I first cleaned it with a Clorox wipe to get anything that was stuck on off the shelves and to make sure it was germ free. After that dried, I wiped down every surface with equal parts white vinegar and water. That immediately did the trick. I was amazed at how quickly it worked! I dried it off and then for good measure rubbed some vanilla extract on the walls and put a cotton ball with vanilla on it in both the refrigerator and freezer. I also dumped all of my ice since I was noticing the taste in my water.
I found the results to be instantaneous and much more effective than just a box of baking soda which was doing no good.
