I haven't been to Denver for over 20 years, and we will be heading there in June or July to attend a Rockies game. Can anyone recommend a hotel or area to stay in? We would like something that has easy access to Coors Field (either near the ball park or near public transportation) but would also like to visit other attractions while we are there. When I look at Coors Field on google maps it doesn't look like there is a lot of activity in that area so perhaps we need to stay in another area and just travel to the games, but I'm not sure what area would be good.
Thanks!

The 16th St Pedestrian Mall is right there and is full of shops and places to eat. Check this out:

The area is really nice and is always lively.

I can recommend the J W Marriott in Cherry Creek. I stayed there while attending a work event at the Convention Center. It is only about 5 miles/15 minutes by car to the ball field. If you are not going to have a car, there is public transportation (on Google maps choose get directions and click on the bus icon to see public transport options).

I found the Cherry Creek area to be nice after the hub bub of being downtown near the business district each day. There is a mall/shopping district and many restaurants in the area which I was able to walk to. I didn't have a car while I was there and relied on convention buses (probably similar to the public transport), taxis (they had taxi stand at the hotel), and airport shuttles (Super Shuttle was great) to get around and had no problem.

I live in the Denver metro area...what other kinds of things would you like to do? I can recommend several hotels w/i walking distance of the light rail line but they are all south of downtown (Coors Field is downtown). I personally wouldn't stay downtown...you'll pay a premium for that. From the furthest point out on the light rail line (Highlands Ranch), it would only take about 1/2 hour to get downtown. But I also know of some hotels closer in on the light rail line too. That's the ONLY way I ever go downtown...love the light rail.

Thanks. The main reason we are going to Denver is for the baseball games. We don't really have any other activities planned right now, but I wanted to make sure that we don't pick a hotel that has nothing nearby. The light rail line sounds great.

Do you have any suggestions for must do activities or restaurants that shouldn't be missed?

Lived in Denver for 17 years and now in Colorado Springs. I too would stay out on the light rail line-or in Cherry Creek. I ususally select a Hilton Property ( hilton, hampton inn, hilton garden, or homewood suites) since im a hilton platium customer do to work travel.
Places to eat-if you like Cuban food-Cuba, Cuba cafe at 12th and Delware-the food and mojitos are awesome. She doesnt take reservations so if you are going on the weekend get there early.

Coors Field sits right in LODO, which is an awesome district in Downtown Denver. Depending on your Budget, I'd recommend The Oxford. They will have some good weekend rates and it's smack in the middle of LODO. If not there, then there are quite a few good hotels along the 16th street mall and you can easily get from there to Coors Field. There is a free shuttle that runs the length of the mall and you can easily walk from Market Street station to Coors Field.

Been to tons of games, so feel free to ask me about restaurants, what to do in downtown, good beer, etc. Here's a pdf of Denver hotels: http://www.denver.org/images/maps/DowntownAccommodations.pdf

We stayed in this area. I think it was the Courtyard Marriott. I know it was a Marriott anyway.

It was an old hotel that'd been rennovated. We had a great two-room /two-bath suite. Huge rooms. No view though. We were on the side, so our windows looked out on to brick walls. Since this hotel is right on the mall, do ask for a high-floor; the lower floors may not be so quiet.

From this location you can walk to loads of restaurants and shops. We LOVED the bookstore -- something like The Tattered Cover. Wish it were in my hometown. A free bus (or was it a trolley) runs through the area, and it goes almost all the way to the stadium. Even if you walked the whole way, it's not a bad distance.

From this location we walked to a concert that our girls wanted to see (it was Boys like Girls at the Marquis?). DH & I weren't into that, so we went to the Irish pub across the street. And we walked to the US Mint, which was fun -- but you do need reservations.

One negative about the hotel: Navigating our way in through all the one-way streets was tough. I'm glad we didn't do it in the dark. We finally had to call the front desk and have them "talk us in". And they charged for parking; I hate that. Parking is extremely limited, and they won't allow you to park your own car. They really squeeze 'em into a limited space. However, we didn't feel the need to use the car again while we were in Denver, so I suppose we shouldn't fuss too much.
