I was at the dentist about a week ago for a check up. He didn't do xrays but said he didn't see any decay.

A couple of days ago I noticed a sore spot on my cheek while washing my face. I thought maybe it was a zit that hadn't fully appeared yet or something.

This morning I noticed a 'hole' in my gum on the inside of my mouth that corresponds with where the pain on the outside of my cheek was. It sounds like my symptoms are similar to an abcess tooth, although it really isn't too painful. Do you think this is possible? Wouldn't the dentist have noticed something like that if it was just about to happen? Or no, because it's inside the gum and not the tooth?

My annual physical is tomorrow morning so I will ask the dr. while I am there and unless she knows exactly what it is I will be calling the dentist next.

I'm HOPING it's a canker sore but it's located so that I can't really see it. I've been rinsing it with listerine, also, and I would think a canker sore would sting and it doesn't really.

If you had an abscessed tooth your head would be killing you. Trust me. This would happen days before any sore showed up, I would think. I have had two abscessed teeth and I never had a sore with either one, although I have heard of it. If you are not in major pain with a horrible headache, most likely it's not an abscess.
