Dental professionals? night guard- teeth grinding- STICKER SHOCK!

I would try the sports ones and if that doesn't work go back to the dentist and bargain. I'd explain that we have been loyal customers for X number of years and to shell out $1400 is just not in our budget. Since we need THREE contraptions I have no other option but to a) go without them or b) find a dentist that will do it for a better rate or c) ask that we help each other out- We continue to be loyal customers if he gives me a break on the price.

This has worked with our orthodontist. I have priced braces for kid #2 $2000 less than what our orthodontist wanted. When I explained to him that it was way out of our price range and he has 2 more of my kids as potential customers in the next 5 years (on top of the two who aer already IN braces) he was more than happy to match the price rather than losing the business.

I've used the over the counter ones for years with no problems. I prefer the Den-Tek custom comfort nightguard and it usually runs $20 for 2 and they last me about 6 months each. You have to cut them down to fit your teeth and then boil and suck like others said. I prefer them over the $200 custom one from the dentist.

One note, with them being teenagers they tend to lose things and I would much rather lose a cheap one than the expensive one. I once left one in a hotel room and one time my dog pulled it off the counter and chewed it up and I was sooooo glad they were cheap!

I was shocked to find them at the Dollar Store. Even more shocked that it's working great for me.........my jaw no longer aches, no more headaches and I'm no longer grinding my teeth! Well, I AM still grinding but into the mouth guard. LOL

Saw my dentist last week and told him about using it and he reluctantly replied that they work fine for many people. LOL

If you are a grinder you have to put things simply. Would you rather pay $400 every few years or would you rather get crowns every year when your teeth break? I have patients who grind through their nigh guards and day guards- can you imagine if they didn't have that barrier how often we would see them in the office?!

Have you checked if your medical insurance will cover some of it? I know some medical insurance used to cover them.

Exactly what I'm doing right now. I'm crossing my fingers that they will!

Also, you could call a dental lab directly to see if they will do it. I have a feeling that the mark up is astronomical!

Wow, I'm actually shocked at how inexpensive some of these custom guards were! Mine were $900 and that was 8 years ago! But they have lasted and I still wear them when I need to.

I have had been a grinder for about 20 years and have had the expensive dentist made guards and the cheapo ones. I prefer this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000N41ABG/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It is a sleep right dental guard. It fits perfect and doesn't cover all my teeth and make it difficult to talk if I need to. The bite pad is nice and thick and sits only on the back teeth so one will last over a year for me and I grind hard at night. HTH

I would check around different offices. I got mine specially made and a case for $150. Worth every penny. I can't sleep without it now!
