I've read many magazine articles saying that the Galaxy Palace Theatre in Tomorrowland, is being demolished and being replaced with a Disney cast memeber parking lot. Does anyone else know if this is true? My family and I were there in February and we saw a lot of construction going on in Tomorrowland. Some construction was going on by the entrance to the theatre. Does anyone know if this is true?

why build more parking for less staff?

Yes, it's been in the works for a few months now and it's probably 75% done.

The Galaxy Palace Theater is gone. The entrance has been walled off and is now the meet and greet area for Stitch and Buzz Lightyear.

I understood that it wasn't necessarily to increase the number of CM parking spaces, but relocating a few due to the SM refurb. I don't know how true it was, but it made sense as to the why.

Ideally I wish they'd make a path so guests can bypass Main St. during parades, etc. :)

a parking lot "in" the park?

More like the walls of the park are moving inward...the parking area will not be seen from the park itself (except possibly from the TTA - but that will be closed for a while as well, and they've already made an effort to block the view.)

^^ There's actually a staff parking lot just outside the fence in that area, it would be simple just to move the fence in towards the park for the new area. I've also heard this was necessary because of staging area requirements for the SM renovations.

They do that when they tape the Christmas parade. Going backstage behind Main Street to get to Tomorrowland loses all the "magic". I'd rather fight the crowds. Besides, you can always walk thru the shops rather than up the street during the parades.

I meant to say a "themed" path...not a "backstage" path.

I had heard the same thing- that due to the staging requirements for the refurb of SM, cm parking spaces would be lost so they are simply moving them with the demolition of the theater.

I think that it really doesn't make any sense to turn it into a parking lot because, to me, it doesn't look very big and when I've seen certain Christmas shows in there, it still didn't look that big. And there is also a management parking lot right behind it in that big backstage lot behind Main Street and Tomorrowland. Isn't that a cast member parking lot?

A little off topic but have you ever looked at the area to the left of Mickey's Toontown Fair using one of those satellite mapping sites? I was blown away by how much open space there is over there.

After being a contractor there when I could barely get a parking spot sometimes, I can tell you, it is definitely going to help...there's a LOT of things that go on there on a daily basis.

Doesn't that construction have to do with the new Stitch celebration thing? I don't think it has to do with parking at all.
