I took these photos on Saturday, October 30, 2004.

That was the building that housed the DVC sales offices. It will certaily improve the view for the villas above it.

It was located at the far end of BWV (closest to Jellyrolls) and between BWV and the canal, across from the Swan.

Thanks for sharing the photos, Werner.

Bye Bye, aweful red building. Now that should improve some preferred views, shouldn't it.

Yay!

The rooms behind it were standard views, I had one in April (very last room on the 3rd floor - 3002). I imagine they will change them to preferred view.

Any updates on the boardwalk side? It will be interesting to see how they handle the boardwalk frontage of the 1st floor rooms.

Good riddance! We had 2-2 bedrooms on the 2nd floor just behind this building a few weeks ago. Because we were so low, the only view was of the roof of that building and a small courtyard that had been allowed to go to weeds (in anticipation of the demolition, I assume). It is the only time we have had a poor standard view room at BWV. Glad noone will have that again.

Ahhh....I will be sorry to lose more standard views!!!!

Good riddance is right. It was so out of place they will probably find the wicked witch of the east underneath it.

I was wondering what they were going to do back there. I figured it was something with some long term plans. We were there a week ago, and we thought it was funny, they were putting a fresh coat of paint on the fence around that building. Only Disney would make sure the construction barricades look nice and pretty :D .

Thanks very much for posting these pictures.

Can they change the points structure again?? It seems to me those old standard rooms should remain standard otherwise they are tweeking with the whole point structure of BVW...

Thoughts??

Can they change the points structure again??

I wondered the same thing. If they raise points for these units they would have to lower them somewhere else, if I understand the rules correctly. However, maybe there was provision for this change made when they sold additional BWV points in about June, 2003, in anticipation of closing the BWV Welcome Center. In any case, how would we ever know the actual calculations?

I don't think those rooms were ever officially standard views. IMHO, guests were placed in that area when standard view was overbooked or when some of the standard view rooms were in rehab /maintenance. Not sure how DVC managed the "point loss" during those times.

IIRC, that area is supposed to end up with a croquet lawn and some very nice landscaping/flower beds. I'm sure it will be a relatively quiet area with a nice view of flower beds and the canal and Swan/Dolphin in the distance. In any event, it will certainly qualify as a Preferred View - Pool/Garden.

Best wishes -

C'mon now, isn't anyone going to lament another WDW icon being torn down in the name of "progress"? Can't we write Eisner about this travesty? :p

Okay, that's a joke folks. And I do believe that there have been reports here that the rooms with the view blocked by that building have always been Standard View. It seems to me that now they could reclassify as Preferred View - Pool & Water and maybe take a few of the Preferred down by the tennis courts and call them Standard?

Good idea, they could also add the rooms that have the wonderful view of the wooden structure on the back of the keester koaster to Standard view.

Looks like BWV owners will finally get their "Activity Lawn" back.

We were able to play a game of croquet there back in 1997 before the squatters took it over. :)

These DVC Sales buildings were constructed in 1998 (shortly before they tore down the Sales building at OKW).

Prior to the 1998 construction, ALL the rooms in that area were considered "Preferred View". However after receiving a number of complaints becasue of the "blocked" views, DVC started to use some of them as "Standard View Rooms"

Im not sure how DVC worked out the point diffrences but I do know that some rooms that overlooked the tennis courts have sometimes been used for "preferred view" rooms when they were originally "standard view".

We stayed in one of those rooms and it was supposed to be preferred view. The room was on the 3rd floor so you could see a bit over the room, but that was it.
