Deluxe Resorts with good standard rooms

If you could only do the standard room/views at one of the deluxe resorts (mostly due to price), which resort would you pick? Or which one do you think can provide a decent view or experience without paying extra for the better views?

I feel like I can only do the deluxe resorts if I can get the right views (such as water views or the savanna view @ AKL). You know what I mean, right?

Poly just reclassified some of their Standards to a higher level/cost, but the rooms remaining in Standard aren't terrible save one or two. Lots of foliage and monorail.

We are happy with standard view at AKV and at Poly. There are enough public viewing areas at AKL/V that I hate the thought of wasting points on them. Same with Poly. The one time we splurged on a lake view studio, we ended up with ground floor - so view only of bungalows.

I agree with WL because of the castle/fireworks view.
Also, I have had "standard views" at AKL with great views of TONS of animals--maybe some ugly fencing in there too, but tons of animals!

I think CR has great standard rooms. We really enjoyed being on the Bay Lake side when we stayed in the tower and also enjoyed how peaceful it was in the garden wing. Our standard view there had a view of the monorail passing by. We did standard CL at WL and had a view of MK, the monorail and CR. It was stunning and simply the best CL value in MK, IMHO. I've always had great standard views at Poly (was never placed overlooking the parking lot, however). GF has great standard views (though they are technically categorized as "garden"). They overlook the pool for the most part. We've had nice standard views at BWI as well. The only bad standard view I've ever had was BC. It was overlooking the parking area and entrance to the resort. We weren't in the room much that trip, though, so I wasn't terribly bothered by it.

We had a very nice garden view while staying in a standard room at Boardwalk Inn last summer. We just returned from staying at Wilderness Lodge and had a standard room that, as someone else mentioned, actually had a great view of the castle and fireworks! Many of the Deluxe resorts have standard rooms with great views. They also have a few standard rooms with less than great views. You can request a room that faces a certain direction, but it is only a request. There is a chance you could end up in one of the standard rooms with a view you don't enjoy. The only way to guarantee a particular view is to book that category.

I'd recommend checking out the Touring Plans site. They have pages with views from nearly every room on Disney property (some aren't precise, but they're close enough to give a good idea). You can search by room category as well so you can see where the standard rooms are at each resort. For some reason they used the term "hotel maps" in the link. It is not a page of maps for each resort. This is the page with links to the room views at each resort.

You have a good chance of getting a great animal view in a standard room at AKL, by requesting the Kudu Trail. The standard rooms at the Boardwalk Inn are very nice, if you get one facing the inner courtyard.

If you're thinking about standard rooms at the Poly (which I always found pretty good) for second week of Nov 2018, forget it. They are already gone, and so is lagoon view. We just barely managed to get a pool/marina view booked in time.

We always got garden/courtyard views with our BWI standard view booking. Once we got a view of the quiet pool. We were always pleased with our BWI standard view rooms.

We always get standard view at BWI and have had great views. Having said that, I now see a booking category of “garden view” which I don’t believe we had ever seen previously.

We like standard view at AKL, either side. I request rooms 3rd floor or higher so the view is the trees, not asphalt. Our standard (parking lot) views at AKL have actually been very pretty and private. We paid for savanna view once and while it was cool, we didn't think it was worth the significant jump in price.

Isn't Poly's lowest room category "garden view." I've stayed Garden View and the view was perfectly agreeable, just foliage, the resort, etc.

I've also stayed standard at AKL and had a partial Savannah view. But, some of the AKL standard rooms do face the parking / bus stop.

WL has some awful standard rooms that face dumpster areas and the smokestack area of whispering canyon. It made it to the infamous "worst views" thread.

My standard view room at YC fac d the parking lot. Not bad, but not great. BC and YC have some notoriously bad rooftop/systems views that have also made it to the infamous "worst views" thread.

Not really I think you would get your moneys worth staying at a standard

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the standard view rooms in the Poly. Even the worst of them show a lot of beautiful grounds. The WL you can hit the jackpot and get a glimpse of the Fireworks or you could wind up staring at clay tiles.

I've stayed standard view at BC, YC, AKL, and Poly. I've had decent or even great views at all of them. The better ones were AKL and Poly. AKL we had a partial savannah view and it was lovely. At Poly we could see the castle and fireworks if we leaned the right way around this tree that was by our patio. BC we had a view of the walkway to the villas, so it was fine, at least not a parking lot. YC we just had a big tree right outside our balcony, also better than a parking lot. Most standard view rooms at BC and YC aren't great, but there are a few.

I agree and feel the same way about the GF. I don't think there's a bad view at either resort :).

We did Savannah View at AKL in June and, while we loved it, we decided in the future we would probably just book a standard room there. After the first day or so it wasn't as exciting to be able to see the animals from our balcony and we found that we actually enjoyed watching them from the various viewing areas throughout the resort more than we did our balcony (the exception would be when an ostrich laid an egg right in front of our balcony - that was very cool!).

I would definitely say that a standard view room at Beach Club is also worth it. We stay at BC for the proximity to Epcot, not the view.

I guess, in general we would be just fine staying in a standard view room at any deluxe. While there are times we choose to upgrade our room for a better view, the reality is that we really choose to stay at a deluxe for the upgraded room amenities and other "extras" at the resort, not the view.
