Hi Everyone

I love Disney like we all do on these boards; so please bare with me...I just need to vent. I really think that they have gone over the top with the rates at the deluxe hotels. There are 5 star resorts that don't charge well over $500 a night! I know some will say "well they'll get it so they can do it", but I just can't see the value at a difference (for example) of $1600 from the same amount of nights at a moderate. Tickets were in that difference, but they were the same cost so that's a wash...

Anyway, I am just aggravated and a bit sad. Over the past 16 years we have visited atleast that many times. A great number of those times we have stayed deluxe. Ofcourse we love the convenience of their location and transportation options not to mention dining....but at the recent rate difference there is just NO justifying it.

Ok I'm done...thank you for reading. Does anyone agree? Have a magical day! lol

If not for rented DVC points we'd be a 'Moderate Couple' at best. We could afford the over the top rates at Board Walk and love the resort but spending more for a week there than our first new car cost when we got married goes against my grain.

I just booked 10 days on Maui and 6 days on Kauai, Ocean Front in the Westin on Maui and the Marriott on Kauai -- for half the price per night of the Poly. But as my ticker shows....off the GF we go in less than 60 days -- why, because it is less than 3 hours away for us and every trip has been an entertaining adventure!

Prices are crazy, yes. That is what I also think. But personal limits are different and there is enough demand. Some people have enough money and do not need to worry about the prices, other people book those crazy priced rooms despite having the money.

I think that the pricing for standard rooms with e. g. a garden view or a lagoon view is expensive, but OK. But then there are crazy priced rooms like the category Theme Park View Club Level, especially during peak season. This is really a little over the top and there is no reason to book that for the most people, even if having the money, because some vacationers do not care about a lounge, being secluded behind a secure door, diet coke and other things. But then there are other people who like this kind of add-ons and book these rooms, some on a regular basis. So Disney can likely raise their prices every year and those rooms should still be booked more than solidly.

To sum it up: there is enough demand, so rooms will be booked, prices might be higher every year except for some resorts/rooms.

But for example > 1000 $ for a standard TPV room per night during peak season at some of the resorts is really a little out of control - but people pay for it

Depending on resort and season you can get a deluxe for around $350 a night. Not as horrible as $500. Many people gladly pay for deluxe resorts, and some gladly pay for club level and suites and deluxe resorts. It is all in what is important to you and what you are comfortable spending.

I do agree that the rack rates are ridiculous.

We have a party of 9 going (my in-laws, sister, DH, myself and our 4 girls).

We would need to book 2 rooms at a value resort wit no guarantee I would be anywhere near half of my children. It would cost us over $1,600 (now with discounts that weren't availabe when we booked). Instead we opted to book a 2 bedroom villa from SSR through rented points for $3,000.
In my opinion, having one decent room to go to at the end of the day and everything, is worth the price difference. If I didn't get along with my inlaws, I suppose I would be okay with the two rooms instead.

You could have book a family suite for about the same cost as 2 value rooms. Which would have gave you a kitchenette, which could be used to save money on meals. That would have also guaranteed your family would be all together.

Yes, but the only resort that had them available when I was booking (11 months out) or at least the only one that was showing was AoMu, which didn't thrill me. If they had AoA or Pop, I'd have booked that.

I wont pay rack rates, so I price out the trip that is in my budget. I follow the "sales". I think the deluxe resorts are pricy, but if we plan to spend a good deal of time in the resort, we tend to book them. I like the moderates though, and often look at them as my option.

As the OP acknowledged, some people do find value in the deluxe resorts. Some don't. That's why Disney has moderate and value resorts as well.
Yes, but the point that I am perturbed over is....yes have a value..then sure pay some more for a moderate, and then more for deluxe. BUT Deluxe isn't just a reasonable amount more anymore...the standard rooms can be a ridiculous amount more now. I realize everyone has their opinion...I have been going staying with Disney for 16 years and I really have seen Deluxe rates get out of hand.

I think the point you are perturbed over is that it is out of hand, In Your Opinion.
We do not all agree with you.
You asked and many have answered. Some agree. Some don't.

A suite at AoA is about $80 a night more than ASMu.

You are kind of proving cost isn't the deciding factor.
