deluxe person staying in value?? will I survive?

I enjoy deluxe hotels, and I enjoy value hotels. But I don't approach them with the same expectations! As long as you go in expecting a value hotel, you'll have a great time. On the other hand, if you go in constantly saying, "Hmmmph, I'm used to having _____!" then you'll make yourself unhappy.

I've stayed at Pop Century a few times. I think it's a good value for your money and for the most part I don't miss what the deluxe resorts have to offer. Or should I say I'd rather spend my money on other things.

I've also stayed at the Poly (reg and concierge), Contemporary, WL (concierge), AKL (concierge), Swan and all the moderates, and I do have something to compare it to. I started staying at Pop when I would go down with one of my kids. It was hard to justify a more expensive resort for 2 of us, especially a deluxe.

I'm planning a trip for the end of Jan for my college DD and myself and we'll probably stay at Pop.

Unbeliveable because you prefer Deluxe you are considered a snob.....I personally got what you were saying. I hope ou can upgrade to a moderate and also I love CSR if I HAVE to stay at a mod....it has alot of the same great services that you will find in the deluxe because its a convention center as well. You things like restaurants not counter service....beauty salon....and oh yes The huge huge huge hot tub.

No matter where you stay at least you will be on property...even if it is in the hood. (JUST KIDDING )

Generally speaking you can survive anything for 3 nights, but why try? I'm always interested in a good deal, but only if it's good - the definition of which is something I value for a great price. I don't value the value resorts. I love a great deal on a deluxe or concierge and I find them. A great deal on a value - for me - is a misnomer.

When considering walking distances and room location, is it worth it to pay for a "preferred location" room at POP, and what does that mean exactly? I am planning a girls only birthday celebration for my soon to be 7 year old daughter and don't want to have to walk very far after a long day (she might be sleeping and I would be carrying!). Got a great Florida resident rate of $64 per night. Just need to know if I should upgrade to the preferred location, total $27 more for two nights.

I've stayed at the 70's building a couple times and it was not far at all to the main building. The last time I had to stay in the 60's section (preferred) because the didn't have the AP rate that wasn't preferred. It was ok, but were we were at in the 60's wasn't closer than the two 70's rooms that I'd stayed in. Are you going at a busy time of the year? If so, you might think it's worth it just so you'll know what area you'll be in, but during a slow time I wouldn't advise it.

we are dvc members so we prefer a deluxe type of room. we previously had stayed a ASM and had a great time with minimal complaints. as my 2 DSons grew we needed much larger accomidations hence the DVC purchase. this past july i had an opportunity to spend a few extra days at WDW and we chose POP. i really liked this place. it had a definite fun feeling abouit it. yes the rooms are considerably smaller but we really dont spend that much time in our resort anyway.

we went for a tour of the grounds and the theming was just great. the ovesize icons the bowling pin pool with the pool area looking like a bowling alley lane, it didnt seem like a value resort to me just a fun place to stay. good food court, IMHO better food and selection then artist pallet at SSR. since we havent purchased enough points to go DVC every year yet, staying at a value resort is very much in our future plans

When we stayed at Pop we were in the 90's section. It was quite a bummer at first - far from everything. However our pool was never crowded and it was very quiet. We also learned that if we cut through the 70's section, it wasn't that far from the bus stop. Still, I would have really liked to have been in preferred and facing the Hippy Dippy Pool area for convenience sake since we spent a lot of time swimming there just because of the kiddie pool. Now that my kids are bigger, I don't think I would really care where we were put. It's all an adventure and I have learned that getting what you get is sometimes better than what you thought you wanted. Make sense??

going next week

While I don't like a full sized bed, for 3 nights, I would do Pop. It's a fun place. Weird and wacky but fun and worth experiencing once.

Having said that, I read you transferred to PO. Good luck with that - those people are animals over there.
