OKAY

having another dilema- i think it would be nice to have the verandah for my 4 day may 2005 cruise but DH thinks we should get an inside deluxe and use the extra $$$$ for excursions and spa time?

i realize this is a personal preferance but need some reassurance that an inside deluxe won't be all that bad

booking on 10/1 so need help soon:wave:

Tough call if it has to be one or the other. I can't wait to have my first verandah, but I would never give up that extra massage!

Our first cruise last year was on Royal Caribbean's SMALLEST ship, the Nordic Empress, and we were in an inside cabin! It was only 2 of us, but it was fine!! Before the cruise I was afraid I'd feel claustrophobic, but I didn't. I would definitely cruise in an inside cabin again if I had to.

We had a verandah on our recent Disney cruise, and we loved it. As long as we have the money, we'd always get a verandah.

However, if it was going to mean that money was a bit tight, I'd forego the verandah, and use that money for other things, especially on a 4 night cruise.

This is only my opinion, but I hope it helps :)

Maybe you could compromise and get a porthole, category 8 or 9 cabin. Less money but still a great view... ;)

Hmmm, lots to get in on a 4-night, so probably even less time in your room. Get the inside or porthole and splurge on excursions/drinks of the day/spa!

On both of our 4 day cruises DH and I have had a cat. 11 and were very happy with them. I think they are perfect for two. Anything more people and I don't think I could handle it. However on a longer cruise I would opt for the varenda. I think it's a personal preferance. We spent so little time in our room it didn't matter.

IMHO, go for the deluxe inside stateroom (Hey, you could see if one of the "secret porthole" rooms is open on your sailing?! Cat 9 for the price of cat 10!)

I've sailed in the Cat 6, 9, 10 and 11. Except for the cat 11, they were all the same basic (very nice!) room. I was very concerned about feeling locked in a closet with the inside, but that simply was not the case. It has a nice, round mirror where the door or window would be in a higher category, which is cheery. Also, it is great for sleeping...really cozy. And for some reason, I seem to feel the motion of the ship less with an inside room. And most of all, trust me, if your husband will be happier saving the money, you'll be happier, too! :teeth: Hey, extra spa appointments are WONDERful!

Happy sailing.

HI

thanks for all the great answers!

maybe we will just do the port hole- i have done several cruises on carnival and always had an inside cabin but i always wondered if we were missing something:(

well, maybe between now and tomorrow i will hit the lottery:rolleyes:

I think it's all based on preference. We took our 4th cruise (1 Disney - Wonder) the first week in Aug of this year. This was also the first time that my we cruised with the boys (4 and 7). We've only cruised without a verandah once. Honestly, I can't see myself cruising again without a verandah. We just make sure we budget accordingly and just go for it. The boys enjoyed it a lot. My wife and I enjoyed it a lot also. We used it some timed during the day when the boys were at the club. We used it a lot at night when the boys were sleeping. It was nice just to sit out, relax, enjoy the breeze, listen to the waves, etc.

There's another thing to think about, then. Once you stay in an outside cabin it'll be much tougher to stay inside again. So not only will you spend more on this cruise, you'll be spending more on future cruise, too.

We have taken 2 Disney cruises and both were 4 day. Our first we stayed in a room with a verandah and was nice, but the 4 day your not in the room enough to justify the extra money. our 2nd cruise we stayed in a deluxe inside room and it was nice also and very quite. We just booked a 7 night for Feb 06 and we got a Porthole room on this cruise because you have 2 days at sea. We can find alot of things to do with the extra money because we were not in the room that often. Whatever you decide you will have a great time on this cruise. TJHUTCH

We went on the 4 night Wonder in 10/01 and had a verandah. We loved the verandah BUT........we were hardly ever in our cabin to use it. We were either at a port or Castaway Cay and only had one day at sea. I don't really remember being on the verandah much the day at sea. We went to a movie and hung out on deck 9. My husband and I did share some wine and cheese out there once as I recall but honestly we maybe spent a total of 2 hours at the most out there.

I'd get an inside room and use the money for other things. Our favorite day was at the Atlantis Paradise Hotel. You can also get a room at the Comfort Suites next door and have the Atlantis pool/slides/beach/aquarium privileges. Their website is www.atlantis.com if you want to check it out. It was worth every penny in my opinion and the highlight of our trip. If you're for other things to spend your money on you may want to consider going to the Atlantis on your own for the day. There's a ton of posts on it. I don't know if you have kids or not, but renting a room at the Atlantis for myself, husband and two kids was about as much as spending a day at a water park but much more beautiful, more fun and less crowded. We got to swim in beautiful pools, go on incredible slides (one goes through a shark tank) and be on gorgeous beaches. The hotel is awesome too. There is a height limit on some of the slides FYI.

Good Luck and have a WONDERful trip. I love having a Disney Cruise to look forward to!!!

We got a free upgrade to a Verandah, used it like crazy on a 7 day.........but not enough to justify the $1500 extra it would have cost us.
Can't speak to the spa question, the idea of a stranger having their hands all over me just doesn't do anything for me.

I'm sort of the in the minority but after having a verandah on my last cruise I don't think I could ever cruise without one. We loved every minute of ours.

We've done both - standard inside and verandah room. Today I booked a 7 night in a standard inside. We all loved the verandah but really didn't use it much and with the upcoming cruise really couldn't justify the difference in cost of $1500 - would rather spend that on other things. And believe it or not, we prefer the larger single bath than the two smaller ones (see my tag), even with out family of four. So book what you think you'll enjoy the most - it IS nice to have the verandah experience at least once. ;)

We've done two 7-day cruises, the eastern and the western. On both cruises we had a verandah and I loved it. I'm the early morning person in the family, so I would order my coffee the night before and slip out on the verandah and watch the day unfold. In the afternoons, after the day's events, we would have our snack out on the verandah and plan our night activities. We were on the Magic when they released the west coast dates and cost. We had heard the rumors and wanted so desperately to do a 14-day Panama Canal cruise. Well, to do that, financially we had to drop down to a category 12. I've worried about it every since. Will it be cramped?? Will I go crazy in the morning waiting for everyone to get up? What will we do in the afternoon?? I finally called and moved up to a category 10 to at least give us a little more room and the two bathrooms but I still could not justify the cost for the verandah for the 14 day. I hope to win the lottery, but even so, now there are no rooms. Tell me it's going to be ok!!

Tell me it's going to be ok!!

You're definately spoiled princess: but it WILL be ok...::yes:: :boat:

I don't know where your room is but maybe you could find a spot which can become your little getaway, like Deck 7 Aft? (That's what we plan to do)!
