Deluxe hotel San Diego, near Zoo??

We are looking for the equivalent of a Disney deluxe-level hotel for our 2 nights in San Diego after being at GCH for 5 days. We plan on a "pool day" on arrival day, then the zoo the following day. I am hoping for someplace fairly close to the zoo (we will have a rental car) and prefer something that has suites with a door between the bedroom(s) and living area. A great pool area with slides would be wonderful (we are going the first week of May; any idea if it will be warm enough to swim??). There will be 6 of us (4 adults, 2 kids), so a 2 bedroom suite with pull out couch in living area for the kids would be perfect, or we could do a one bedroom suite and an additional hotel room.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated, as it is difficult to sort through all of the hotels in that area on Trip Advisor!

Well if you want deluxe , check out the "Del", Hotel Del Coronado that is . It's the hotel that The Grand Floridian at WDW was modeled after. It looks just like the GF ! Very nice hotel , right on the beach in San Diego . It's a bit pricey though !

We almost reserved there , but instead found Homewood Suites in Liberty Station to be the best value for a very nice 2 bdrm suite . It's close to the SD Zoo , Sea World and the airport .

Thank you! I will check that one out. I am going to start another post about hotels with cool pool areas/slides, as my children now say that they REALLY want a cool pool area!
