Deluxe for seven?

We're staying off-site in a 2 bdr villa for most of our Jan. 2004 trip, but I'd love to splurge a bit on a couple of nights in a Deluxe WDW resort. There are 7 of us: myself and dh, and our kids who will then be ages 15, 7, 7, (twins), 3, and 18 mos. The youngest will still be sleeping with us then. Are there any Disney resorts that can fit us all in one room? We don't mind close quarters and sharing beds for a nite or two. I really can't afford much more than $150-160/nite though. I will be getting AP's, so hopefully something with an AP rate will fit the bill. I'm also an RN, so I'm aware of the nurses' rate at Swan/Dolphin, but I don't think they will allow 7 per room? Can't afford 2 rooms. We did stay in Ft. Wilderness cabin before youngest was born, but was more interested in a monorail or boardwalk resort, or even WL or AKL. Thanks for your help!

Hi there,

We are in the same boat. There are seven of us. Myself, DH, DS15, DD15, DS4,DS2 plus MIL.

We researched alot. I believe there are no regular rooms at the deluxes that will accomodate 7. The most may be 5.

There are suites that may accomodate that many, but they are rarely discounted and quite expensive.

We went with 2 rooms at the Poly and AKL.

You may be able to swing a deluxe room at WL-sometimes they refer to it as a junior suite. It has 2 queens in the bedroom and a pull out sofa. Your 18 month old wouldn't technically be considered a 7th person. I believe these rooms sleep 6 (plus one under the age of 3). I don't think you could get them for the price you desire. Do some checking though and keep your eye on codes. I don't think you could get this room for under $300/night.

You could also try a junior suite (again, I think they refer to it as a deluxe). These sleep more than 6, I believe. You can see the room layout on the Disney website. I don't think these would fall into your price range either.

Do a lot of checking and see what you come up with. The only thing that may be possible is the FW cabins or 2 discounted connecting standard rooms at WL, Cont, etc.

Good luck.

No deluxes legally will sleep 7 unless you are in a suite or villa which cost 400+/night. I would suggest a JR. Suite at the Dolphin, with the gov/nurse/teach/ rate I think you can get it for below $300/nt . It's a 2 room suite with 3 beds and a sofa bed, plus 2 bathrooms! I'm sure there is nothing in your price range though unless you were to get 2 rooms at a Value resort, you could possible swing that for around $74/nt per room.

You may want to look into renting points from a DVC member. I hear many are doing this. That way you could stay at WLV or BV without the costly expense and book a 2 bedroom for the price of a hotel room.

I think the deluxe rooms at the CR sleep 8 because they have a king bed and day bed in one br, a queen bed and a day bed in the middle area and then a sleeper sofa in another area.

Disney refers to it in their room layout section as a deluxe room and under the rates section they call it a junior suite.

The rate for this room in value season is $300 per night. I was told that CRO offers AP discounts and codes on deluxe rooms at CR and WL but not on the "true" suites at the deluxe resorts. If you could get this room for $200 with a code or something that would be a great price for sleeping that many.

The deluxe room layout for WL is also on the website. It sleeps 6 but your 18 month old is under 3 so he or she could be in the room as well.

You have a lot of options. Renting pts from a DVC member is a very good idea-you can do some research on that over on the rent/trade board.

Just keep your eye out for AP rates and you can always make a res and then get the cheaper AP rate when it comes out. It couldn't hurt to decide on where you want to stay and then when the current AP rates come out for May you could post and ask someone how much of a discount they received on the room type you want to stay in. This would be a good indication of the discounts that may be available in Jan. You would obviously be paying less than someone pays in May because you are traveling in value season but you could just see the % they saved.

Keep in mind that at any resort other than the villas, you have to pay a per person fee for anything over 2 people. At a deluxe, it's $25 per person. When re-reading your post I see where some in your group are children and I'm not sure how the exta person fee applies as far as children goes. When we had the AP rate last year, this fee was not included in the discount. Perhaps others have had it included in the discount, but I never have.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to get what you're looking for anywhere near your price range.

I believe the extra charge is for over 2 adults in any room. I think Disney's policy is that children are free.

I'm sure someone has more info on this. If it is just you and your spouse and some children you shouldn't be charged any additional money.

I agree with AspiringCindy. Go to the rent trade board and look at renting points. You could get a two bedroom, two bath villa at Old Key West or possibly the Boardwalk that sleeps eight, for around $220.00 per night, with no tax for a Sunday through Thursday night. It really is the only way for a family your size.

We are a family of six and until we purchased DVC, we always had to get two rooms.

Good luck and don't worry about renting, lots of people do it.

Thanks, all, for the great advice! I think I will look into renting DVC points. I seem to remember reading somewhere that if you stay at a DVC resort, then you can pool-hop at all of the resort pools in WDW--is this true? That would be truely awesome

Thanks!

Technically, renters are not entitiled to DVC perks/benefits. However, you will almost certainly receive Resort IDs/Room Keys that say "DVC Member" on them. That will be enough to get you the pool hopping privilege. (And maybe some other DVC discounts. You should get a list of them at check in).

There are restrictions to the pool hopping privilege. No pool hopping is allowed at any time to Storm-Along-Bay (at the BC/YC) or to the pool at the AKL. Pool hopping is suspended for all DVC members during certain Holiday/Peak periods. You are also requested to call ahead (to the resort with the pool you will be visiting) to see if pool hopping is OK for that day. Even then, you may be requested to leave if the "hopped to" pool gets too busy (but that seldom happens :D). I don't think it very likely that you will run into any trouble during January, though.

Good luck. OKW is a great resort for a family - prepare to be spoiled!

Anytime I have ever pool hopped I have needed both the resort ID and my DVC member card. I would be prepared to possibly be asked so I didn't feel disappointed.

If you are looking to stay in the $150 range per night. The Fort Wilderness Cabins. They sleep 6 plus an infant. 1 double bed, bunk beds and a murphy bed in the living room. As you already know. You have boat access to the Contemporary and the Magic Kingdom. Everywhere else you will need 2 rooms.

The bigger rooms at the resorts whether they are deluxe or junior suites are very rarely discounted and it wouldn't drop the price down to what you are looking for.

If you're staying at Beach Club Villas, then can you go to Stormalong Bay?

If you stay at BCV you will be able to use SAB. Also, with the size of your party, you'll need a 2 bedroom, which on a Sunday - Thursday stay will cost 30 points a night. Points usually rent for $10 per point, so that will result in costing you $300 per night. The weekend nights (Friday and Saturday) cost 60 points per night. These are all for stays in January.
