Is it true that the deluxe resorts share buses to Studios, DD and AK??
How does that work?
I know a major draw is being on the monorail line, and that's a huge advantage, but I'm wondering about getting to the other parks...

Yes

well say you are at an Epcot resort - (BC,BW,YC or D&S) - and you want to go to the MK - you would need to go to the bus stop and wait for the MK bus. then it depends upon which schedule it is on - how often you will stop or if you will stop (if you don't stop going - you will coming)

early morning it is generally BW, then D&S then MK

also
early morning it is YC then BC then MK

now if you wait it will get worst - D&S, YC, BC, BW.

so the bus stops can vary with where you stay and what time you leave to go the parks.

going back again it depends when.

the MK resorts (CR, BLT, GF, Poly, WL/VWL) have a different schedule for each park or DD - so they are harder to tell you. sometimes CR/blt shares with Polyn and GF - sometimes it shares with WL/VWL.

so pick your favorite park and just go with one close to it - walking distance

Epcot - Epcot resorts (BW, BC, YC, D&S) - it is an easy walk from BC
Studios - EPcot resorts again - but BW is the easy walk to Studios
MK - MK resorts (CR/BLT, Polyn, GF, WL) - it is an easy walk from CR/BLT
for epcot you ride the monorail. WL/VWL has a boat or bus to the MK. bus to epcot.

there is nothing close to AK - even AKL/V is not close enough to walk - so bus transportation only

DD - SSR, OKW, POR or POFQ - SSR is the only one close enough to walk to the DD - OKW for West side - you can also take a boat with all of them

Deluxe resorts are deluxe because they have nicer theming, they have larger rooms, nicer pools, table service restaurants, as well as alternative transportation to at least one park other than a bus.
So....
For the MK resort..
CR...monorail or walk to MK, monorail to TTC for Epcot line. Bus to DHS and AK.
Poly...monorail or boat to MK, walk or monorail to TTC for Epcot line. Bus to DHS and AK..you can also walk to TTC to get these buses.
GR...boat or monorail to MK, monorail to TTC for Epcot, bus to DHS and AK.

YC/BC/BW...walk or boat to Epcot and DHS. Bus to MK and AK

WL..boat or bus to MK, bus to Epcot, DHS, AK
AKL...bus everywhere.

now if you want the best transportation go with Pop Centuy - it has bus transportation only.

but it makes one stop at Pop then goes directly to the parks.

Absolutely!!! Love the transportation at Pop!!!

We were value resorts for years. Then we became DVC members. Sharing a bus has been fine. Buses seem to run about the same. What we have noticed is less people seem to take the buses at Deluxe resorts.

that depends upon your time and where you are going.

Having stayed at both Contemporary and Polynesian, I was never bothered by the bus sharing. There is only one Disney resort that doesn't either share buses or have more than one "internal" stop before heading to the final destination, an that's Pop Century.

So I know it may sound less than ideal to hear that Contemporary and Poly date buses (and often also share with Grand Floridian), but it is in no way different from Saratoga Springs Resort having 5 internal stops or Caribbean Beach Resort having 7 internal stops, and so on and so on down the list.

At Poly, on the way home from DHS and AK you have the added plus of two bus options. At those parks, the Poly bus stop and the Transportation & Ticket Center bus stops are next to each other, so you can take whichever comes first; the TTC is adjacent to Poly.

that depends upon your time and where you are going.
Where my wife has worked has always closed the first week in July. I think it one of the busiest times of the year. When we stayed at POP or All Stars we might have to wait for several buses, we have never had that experience at Boardwalk.

I wandered over to Pop Century and Art of Animation last week to walk around. I noticed that the Pop bus queues at the resort had chains and lines to wait in. That would stress me out a little. I assumed the volume must be higher there. I prefer the leisurely waiting on the bench at Kidani.

I stayed all of last week at Boardwalk, and now that I think about it, I didn't catch a bus from Boardwalk a single time. Interesting, I didn't do that on purpose. I did catch buses from DHS to MK and AK and the monorail from Epcot to MK.

I have seen the same patterns.

not sure if they share but deluxe buses are slow and always crowded...the valuse have them beat in the transportation for sure

Wow. Thanks for all the replies! I am a little surprised that there is more bus sharing going on then I thought - but it sounds like it is not a big problem from what everyone has said. That's good to know!

I'm planning a trip for 2013, and am considering options for our hotel. DH is picky, and doesn't like surprises, so it helps to have all the info up front. I'd like to try to stay at Poly or Contemporary if we can get a decent deal... so I'm just sort of looking and reading and wishing on a star.

Thanks for all the info!! :disrocks:

I'm in the same boat as you. I've narrowed my search down to Contemporary, Poly, and AKL. From what I have read AKL has their own busses and do not share.

AKL has 2 stops - Kidani and Jambo. Kidani is first to the parks. Jambo is first to Downtown Disney.
