Just heard on the radio that Delta "may" have to file for bankrupcy (can't spell!). Anyone know how that effects people (like me) who have already purchased tickets this fall? I am getting nervous...

Given that quite a few of the top US airlines are already operating in Bankruptcy, including United and USAir, I am not worried about holding tickets with Delta. In fact I have two Delta (Song) itineraries booked currently (April & October) and will be booking another later this month (for February '06). The one to worry about is USAir IMO, tho they do seem to keep on flying anyway, despite their apparently hopeless financial predicament. United is having trouble getting back out of bankruptcy, but I think we all expect them to keep on going. Delta is still a few notches up, and using the threat of bankruptcy as a means of winning concessions from bondholders and other creditors and from employees.

Just to restate, we Delta ticketholders will be just fine. In fact, we should benefit by their efficiency initiatives and the simplification of fares.

Don't worry! They will get us all there.

I have lots of Delta miles and Delta tickets and I am not the least bit worried. United has been in bankruptcy for months and they are still flying. USAir seems to be surviving their SECOND bankruptcy filing in a 12 month period.

I think Delta and some of the other majors may still file. Mainly to get out from under expensive labor and debt contracts, but you the flier won't see a big difference.

I agree with pumkinboy--I will be getting up in the wee hours of the morning of March 20th to book our flights for NEXT February on Song. I feel very confident that they will reorganize under whichever filing they may or may not do, and will still be flying then

If Delta has to file, it will be Chapter 11 and it won't affect a thing.

As far as US Airways and United, I am guessing some merger between the two will be taking place in the not so distant future. ;)

Did I miss something? Why March 20th?

March 20th is 331 days prior to the day I want to fly. In order to get a decent price, and the times I want, I will be booking at the 331 day window, since travel at that time from the North East is VERY busy because of February School Vacation here.

It's 282 days till I want to fly. I've been watching the Delta fare for my flight, and it has bounced around over the past month from a low of $206.90 to the current price of $226.90. It had been at $216.90 for the last 10 days or so, and I was ready to go ahead and purchase - to be sure I get the times (and non-stop) that are best for me. At about 3am last night the fare went back up to $226.90. Now I'm debating whether to go ahead and bite the bullet and book at that price - in case fuel prices drive the fares even higher.

Does anybody know if Delta offers refunds or credit vouchers if the fare goes down?

I've been watching the Delta fares closely also...seems like Friday, they raise the fares and around Tuesday they lower them again...of course that doesn't mean they will stick to it, just what I have observed. For example..my fare I was about to purchase yesterday is now 15.00 higher today...

Thanks for your observation. Maybe I'll hold out till next week and see if they go back down again before I book.
