Delta Upgrade, what would you do?

DH has Platinum status on Delta, and we're flying them in Dec. He gets (almost always) a free upgrade for him and a companion. We have 2 kids, so that means me and one child will be in coach.

I told him to take the upgrade, and a child, to Buisness class with him, if for nothing else, the free luggage allowance! (I think he gets one bag free or maybe 2 bags)

He says he doesn't want to leave me back in coach, blah blah. Our 2 flights are about 2 hours each and our children are 8 and 4, so can't be left alone.

Sure, I want to sit in business too, but we're saving miles for another trip in the spring, so I don't want to blow them on this trip.

What would you do? Send DH and child up front (switching children each flight) for the free luggage allowance, etc, or should we just stick together as a family?

Since he is Platnium and assuming you are all on the same reservation, you should all get free luggage regardless if he gets upgraded or not. I am a Delta Silver and verified this recently for a flight I have in December for a friend & I. They said we both get 2 free pieces of luggage because of my status. I fly them all the time and never have to pay checked luggage fees, upgrade or not.

Then do it! You take his business class seat with one child and let him sit back in coach with the other.

That sort of thing (switching) happens all of the time! No one looks askance at it, and if the FA is curious, you can just point to your husband back in coach.

The above poster is correct. It will be no problem for you to take your husband's business class seat (if he is upgraded).
