Delta SONG

This is terrible...SONG is the best...we used them 4 x a year...out of LGA. We also have tickets on Song for Aug...Hope all goes well...I have noticed that the 800 number is no longer in the USA... saving money$$$

I do not mind having my flight time altered by a half hour - 45 minutes either way - but I booked nonstop and want nonstop. When I spoke to Song this morning - they stated they were not sure of the outcome at this point and would not know till at least August.

I can only wish for pixie dust that this all will work out for the best for all parties... and I get nonstop - and arrive at 11 am as planned! HEHEH

We are booked on non-stop on our flights...I hope that will stay the same...MY Christmas flights both changed in times...and the return flight was changed several times...but ...I did all work out

Song isnt really going bye-bye. They are just becoming part of delta totally. All deltas transcontinental flights starting in the fall will be Song Product. Then eventually all flights of 1750 miles will be Song product. Delta is just trying simplify things and actually provide a better product within Delta Airlines. Also delta will make sure now every plane will have first class to keep elites and business passengers. In the long run this is wonderful, more flights will actually have the nice IFE.

Song is excellent...Delta, well, s**ks of course..ugh. Why can't they ever leave the good things alone.

Um... it's the same airline.. Always has been. And as to why they can't leave the good things alone... How much did hyou pay for that ticket???? Song is bleeding red ink and DL can't afford that!

For most passengers, Delta will get you from your origin airport to your destination airport at roughly the same time of the day.
Unfortunately that was not true in my case. The change of itinerary on our return flight took us from a direct flight from MCO to LAX to a flight with a two and a half hour layover in Atlanta. Our original flight got us back into LA at 8:30 pm. The new flight did not get us in until 11:40 pm which is too late for our shuttle service. The last shuttle to our hometown leaves LA at 10 p.m.The only other flight they were able to offer us that day left MCO at 10:39 am which is far too early to make when we are getting of the ship that day. I am sure they are doing their best, but it did create a very big inconvenience for us and I feel fortunate that we were able to find reasonably priced alternative flights with another airline so close to our travel date. I think that anyone booking with SONG right now just needs to be aware that although they may get you from point A to point B as promised, it may be with a very different itinerary that may or may not work depending on your circumstances.

This is on the Song website. It explains pretty well the changes I thought. But things seem to be in limbo as to how this will impact us individually. I guess we have to just wait for that. :confused3

a letter to you from Joanne Smith

Dear Friends of Song,

We're always looking for ways to make your travel experience with us the best ever. The response we've received to Song from our customers has been so positive that it only makes sense to infuse the entire Delta network with many of the same ideas, options and innovations that our customers have come to love. Our answer is to combine the best of both Song and Delta into one brand and one experience unlike any other - designed specifically for, and around, you. I'd like to take a moment to personally fill you in on the details.

Song's schedule, destinations and award-winning service will remain just as you know them today through spring 2006. At that time, Song and Delta will join together to create a new Delta service. We'll fly both Song and Delta routes, bringing a fresh customer experience to even more destinations than ever before.

Here's what we plan to do next year:

We'll add 26 First Class seats to Song's current fleet of Boeing 757 aircraft - a big plus for business travelers who have asked for a first-class offering on Song.
We'll upgrade more than 50 additional Delta aircraft to two-class Song-style service, complete with all-leather seating, more comfortable interiors, and our state-of-the-art digital in-flight entertainment.
We'll dedicate this exclusive fleet of airplanes to cross-country flying from cities such as New York, Atlanta, Boston, and Cincinnati beginning summer 2006. And, we plan to expand the service to even more destinations to ultimately include all flights over 1,750 miles within the next two years.
We are excited about setting a new standard of air travel for our valued customers. As our plans continue to take shape, we promise to keep you updated on our latest developments.
Thanks for your continued support. We look forward to welcoming you on board and treating you to the best service in the sky.

Song President & Delta Vice President of Consumer Marketing

True. And that applies to other Delta flights too, not just to those that are branded as Song.

Delta is reinventing themselves. Delta is not just dropping the Song brand. Delta is adding international service and reducing domestic service. Delta is redeploying domestic Boeing 767 aircraft to international routes, and redeploying former Song Boeing 757 aircraft to replace the domestic 767 aircraft. And that means that former Song routes will be served by other aircraft, primarily MD80 (and similar) aircraft. Delta is also retiring some or their oldest, least fuel-efficient aircraft.

One way for Delta to reduce the number of domestic flights while still being able to sell service from point A to point B is to route more passengers on connecting service through hubs, primarily Atlanta.

I too booked Song with a non stop flight. Usually we drive but I convinced DH to try to fly again. I don't think I would want to put him through a stop over so I have to hope for the best. When you sprinkle your pixie dust, make sure to spread it around. :wizard:

I was booked on Song from Boston to LAX for next month. I booked after hearing they would be stopping service in May, but I figured I would be ok for my February trip. WRONG! I just got a call saying my flights have been cancelled. They now only have night time or indirect flights...which dont work when I'm trying to get the kids back to school and I dont want to miss a whole day of my trip. So, we booked with Jet Blue (for $165.20 cheaper) and are now trying to get our refund...which we were told we could get if we choose it.

cam colt,
so sorry to hear that..what a bummer let us know if you get a refund or not??
thanks,
makes me scared about my oct.. flight.. delta should update their website sicne future flights past may still say song...

Yes, we did get the refund. At first they tried giving us a credit voucher, but my DH fought them since the first person we talked to told us we could get a refund. They did offer us other flights that I believe were Delta, not Song, but I'm not even sure at this point. I was literally getting dizzy I was so upset. This is 5 weeks before the trip! :scared: But like I said, none of the flights offered worked with our plans....and I pretty much refuse to do connecting flights.

We had a simular problem, we got bounced around more times than a basketball, on our trip to the Bahamas. That said in the end we had a direct flight from LGA to Nassua. It was interesting though.

Check your flights often, I would say at least every two weeks.

Should you find yourself on a different flight with no seat assignments and you like that flight, telephone immediately to get seat assignments. This will inhibit re-rescheduling.

Should your flight be cancelled I suggest you press for either a full refund or (if any) alternate flights of your choice, even if your ticket was originally deepest discount (Delta's T class) or low mileage award (Delta's Skysaver).

Yes, Delta and probably all other airlines can forcibly book you on any of its flights, it is just that they try hard not to.

Should you be looking at a thread with hundreds of entries, feel free to add questions at the end without clicking through every page. Better than starting a new thread with your question.

well, I have plenty of time to fuss witht hem about my flights and to find another airline with cheaper flights if they change all my stuff after they switch to Delta. But , who knows, if Boston is one of the first cities that they are making over, it may be all set for our flight to MCO from there. I'm not going to worry about it until they tell me my flights have been changed and then I'll make sure that I'm still getting in whe I want and not leaving til I want. Right now I'm arriving before lunch and not leaving til after dinner. I ahd no clue that Song was going away until after I booked my flight through Expedia. they do not redirect you so I found out this later. If they change my info in May or even June, there is stil plenty of time to get my refund and get a good price on another airline!

I didn't know about Song until after I booked the tickets yesterday.
I called them to ask about the changes. He said NY-orlando is popular and the chances of it turning into a connecting flight is small.
I doubt that! I wanted to make sure I could get a refund and he said there shouldn't be a problem.
I guess $175 RT might be to good to be true!

Looking for pixie dust that my Oct Song flight BOS-MCO will remain nonstop--flying with 2 kids, that's a non-negotiable for me!

Sending pixie dust for sure!!! I am hoping for the same thing Oct BOS-MCO :wizard:

I love Song. My dd is so upset it's going away. But, once heard they were being absorbed back into Delta, I refused to make flight plans with them for the forseeable future. Song/Delta was way to free with their flight changes. But it was something I put up with because I liked the airline and the fares I was able to get. But, now the fares aren't great. So, I will wait for JetBlue to open their window for Oct flights. Then, by that time, maybe Delta will have it all figured out and I can do a cost comparison. But, I've flown JetBlue and like them almost as much as I liked Song.....I guess we'll see what the future brings.

Nonstops have vanished even in the middle of Song's tenure.

Early in the game Song discontinued the evening MCO - BOS flight although fortunately most of the passengers could get on the previous 5PM flight or take connecting flights through Atlanta.

That was the around time I missed the 331 day in advance Thanksgiving weekend IPO but was at Disney (... Quest) in January and on the internet noticed a schedule change with more cheap seats. I ran upstairs to the pay phone and quickly booked another Disney trip. A few weeks later I found that the Song return flight (the aforementioned evening trip) was gone and had to rebook.
